- Wedding: September 2013
I’m getting married in a week! I just finished my vows and I want to know what you all think. I really wanted to incoporate 1 corinthians 13, because those qualities of love are hardest for me. I’m naturally a very selfish person, so this chapter means alot to me to be able to promise to him.
I read it out loud and it took a little over 2 minutes. Too long?
Caleb, I love everything about you; from your ambition and outgoing personality to your love of Japanese comic books and your ability to make me laugh. But what I love most about you is the way that you love me. When I look at you, I see the love that you have for me, for all of me. I see it in your eyes, I feel it in your touch, I hear it in your words, and I know it in my heart. Never in my life did I imagine I would ever deserve a man as amazing as you. You are the most selfless, kind, and patient person I have ever met, and you have made me better for knowing you. Throughout the past five and a half years, you have supported me, protected me, forgiven me, trusted me, and loved me unconditionally. Caleb, you are my most precious gift from God. My vows to you are my interpretation of 1 Corinthians, chapter 13.
I promise to be patient with you and to speak kind words to you, especially when it is most difficult for me.
I promise to be vulnerable, and to know that pride has no place in our marriage.
I promise to be selfless, to seek your needs above my own, and to never take you for granted.
I promise to be honest with you and to trust you in everything.
I promise to dream with you, hope with you, and play with you.
I promise to support you as the spiritual leader of our household as we keep Christ at the center of our marriage.
I promise to cherish you, honor you, and love you.
I promise to live by these words every day for the rest of our long and beautiful life together.
