So, you’ve probably seen the hidden camera videos where a couple goes out to eat, and the set-up is the waitress will flirt excessively with the guy, and ignore or be surly to the girlfriend/wife.If you haven’t, you can look them up on youtube, it is kinda funny, in a mean-joke-someone-is-gonna-cut-a-bitch sort of way.
I’ve never experienced anything *quite* so blatant, but I have seen a good number of waitresses flirt with my DH and ignore me. DH has noticed before, but he doesn’t always pick up on it. One time, it was so bad that the waitress refilled his drink multiple times, and I could not get a refill or her attention until DH flagged her down and told her I needed more to drink! We laughed about it later, and I am definitely not threatened, I just find it incredibliy rude and stupid. Um, hello, is flirting with a married guy really a good strategy for getting tips?
I posted this sort of as a spinoff of the “why do women hate single women?” thread, and because we’ve gotten the same waitress at a local pizzeria a few times in a row this month… and she definitely has a thing for DH!
At first, I just thought she was quiet (she appears to be in HS or college), but it turns out she just prefers talking to DH. Last time we went, she was smiling, laughing, and making jokes with him, all the while barely looking at me while she took my order. She flung my plate down in front of me without speaking, while asking DH if his was just the way he wanted it!
Also, every time we go in, she asks if our bill is together… when we ALWAYS pay together (sometimes I pay, sometimes he does). We are wearing WEDDING BANDS for god’s sake!
Normally, I just roll my eyes and forget about it. If it is particularly bad, DH and I will laugh about it together. I am not even really vindictive enough to seriously dock her tip (she just won’t get any extra).
I will allow that pizzeria girl is probably just young and stupid, with a crush. However, I am tempted to go back the next time and break out some PDA with DH. The nerve of some people’s kids!
