DH and I co-own a software company. It's his dream but not mine. I don't do much for the company currently but hopefully in the next few months I'll be able to do it full time and control all of the office necessities.
I'd love to own an event planning company. Whether that'll ever happen, who knows, but it is a dream of mine.
ETA: I'd also love to open a no-kill animal shelter but that's more of a philanthropic venture (i.e. money-pit) than a business. It's heartbreaking that there are so many animals out there on death row just because they don't have a family to love them.
Mr. Mink and I joke that we're going to open up a pet hotel and a rescue if we get a windfall.
I think it'd be wonderful to have truly fashionable bridal boutique in Charlottesville. We only have one bridal shop and it carries very classic styles that would appeal to many, but we don't have anything that would cater to a more fashion foward clientel, which we definitely have in this town.
Most people seem to travel to Richmond or DC for wedding gowns. I even saw a girl on Say Yes to the Dress who was in law school here (who wound up getting married at my venue!).
FI would love to open a grill/diner. I'd support it but it's not my fantasy. I'd love to own an EBay store or a pawn shop. I love variety and get bored easily so the ever changing inventory would keep me on my toes. What a fun thread. I had to actually think about what I'd like!
I think I would love to open a floristry business - but this is from a girl who has no flower arranging skills or idea how a florists work! I just love the creative creations people can do with flowers!
A gallery and studio of course. I am on my way. They call my tenacious C. I think it would be fun to have a coffee shop too, with friends as regulars.
I've love to open an event planning business or my own bridal shop geared toward plus size brides.
I feel like a clean, modern bridal shop that carries large samples in really fashionable dresses is really an untapped market right now. Most shops have teeny samples and the plus size ones they do have are all the same old stuff.
OR, a bakery. I was considering going to pastry school before we moved overseas. I might still do it when we move back.
I would love to own a housewares/home decor store. I love finding unique items to decorate and use in my house and would love to have a store filled with all kinds of pretty, unique, practical items.
Not sure it's a business per se, but I really want to run an animal rescue. If we ever end up in a financial situation where I don't have to work, I'm going to do it. Even if I don't ever run a rescue, I will foster cats or dogs when we get our own place.
I'd love to own a makeup studio/store where I could really focus on showing people how to apply it and doll them up for special occasions. And, of course, I could help them play with the newest colors :).
Ha, lots of things. I think it would be fun to be an event planner, or a florist, or a baker. I have the skills for two of them but pretty baking is beyond me. I'm a taste good kind of baker.
FI and I may eventually actual do photography on the side, he is pretty incredible and I am trying to learn all the technical skills to assist him.
Myhusband and I would like to own our own record store. We would love to sell vintage, new, all kinds of records, in a trendy location. Maybe we will save up for it and do it when we are much older. We haven't started yet though.
I would love to own a yarn shop. I would love to sell beautiful and unique fibers to knitters, crocheters, spinners, dyers. Anyone who enjoys fiber arts and crafting!
I made mine a reality - I left corporate and opened another location of an existing local business here in Cbus. It's a gorgeous, fun, and thankfully very popular candle shop where you can buy off the shelf or make your own.
I've been in love with this company for years and while it took a fair amount of convincing (parents and fiance) to have others understand my desire to leave corporate for candles, it's been nothing short of amazing. It's taken a lot of cash, a huge life change and many other sacrifices to make it happen, but I absolutely adore my customers, my shop is gorgeous, and business is booming.
I have a friend who also left corporate to open her own wine shop and it's taken her a little longer to see success, but she is also very, very happy.
I'd own my own clothing/jewlery boutique with mostly self-designed products.
I've always wanted to own a European style cafe or bakery. Having a photography business also crossed my mind. :)
And my fiance and I have the same dream of opening a rescue shelter for unwanted or unadoptable animals! We made a pact that should we ever win the lottery or become really rich, we'd like to open a rescue organization in Argentina (where he's from.)
FI owns a software development company. We haven't discussed full details but I'll probably become a co-owner once we're married. I don't really have any grand plans of owning my own company, though.
Personal shopping for the budget minded. I have always been told that I have a freaky knack for finding what I want at freakishly great deals.
Graphic design, for sure. After DIYing things for our wedding, I've found a real passion for it, and I've been thinking about going bck to school to pursue it.
Either that, or a restaurant. I went to school for hospitality and tourism, and FI is a chef so it sort of makes sense, lol. He's been really vocal about it, lately, actually.
I'd love to be able to do the life coach / organizer type of thing. I really enjoy helping people with their problems, but something like that would be more more hands-on than psychology. Daycare is another thing I think I would enjoy as well. We'll see what happens once Mr.ND and I have kids. One of us may be staying home with the kiddos, but since I'm set to make 2x as much as him, he may be rocking the SAHD gig :-)
I would like to be a personal trainer/fitness instructor and have my own studio ...
Just last night i was talking about opening up a 'make-your-own cheese shop', which i think would take off ...
@NDBee: You can come to my house anytime and get it organized, I will buy the wine ;)
@tksjewelry: Haha, that wine better be at least half way through, or you'll be finding socks in your kitchen cupboards and one happy NDBee asleep on the couch :-)
I want to own a cute little bookstore, and call it Amelia's Attic. That'll probably never happen, because little cute bookstores are going by the wayside as it is. But a girl can dream. :)
@UpstateCait: We are like the same person! lol I have always wanted to start an event planning business, some friends and I have talked about this, but who knows if it will ever happen.
I've also always said if I ever came into a large sum of money and didn't have to work again, the first thing I'd do is but a lot of land and start a no-kill shelter, where the animals could actually run around and not be caged all day.
It's not at all aligned with what I went to school for, but I'd like to open a bra shop. There aren't any good ones where I live (just VS and other generally useless things), and it's really bothersome watching women walk around with the wrong size bra.
I want to own a Christmas tree farm so bad!! We could raise all the cute little trees and do a pumpkin patch in the Fall and take people on hay rides and spread holiday cheer all the time! So fun!
It'll probably never happen, but I would just love it if it did. :)
My FI is seriously thinking of starting his own production company which although is not my thing I would support him 100%! (He tried to get me involved but 1 day of acting a 30 second segment that took 4 hours to do I realized it is not for me!).
I am a teacher and would love to start my own tutoring business which I may look at doing if I take a break from teaching to have children.
FI and I want to own a bed and breakfast. I want it to be quite large so we can cater weddings too. I love event planning and though I hate cooking I am told I have quite the knack for it.( LOL It is so funny because personally I am happiest with plain brown rice and an unseasoned chicken breast paired with fresh peas.) I do love to entertain though and adding all the little touches to make people feel special. We are working towards it.
I am a massage therapist, so I would love to own my own massage clinic someday!
I also love dogs, and would love to have a doggy bakery and/or doggy daycare. I have my business name saved on Etsy and stuff "just-in-case"...I should really use my days off to start testing recipes.
I also would love to have a people bakery. I LOVE baking, but I have a tendency to eat what I make. LOL...that's part of the reason I think a DOG bakery would be a better idea for me!
@KristenGotMarried: Oh my gosh...a candle shop sounds AMAZING! I LOVE candles! I cannot go to a store that has them without smelling them. JEALOUS!!! AND they can make their own there??? That was my favorite thing in art class!!!!
Okay, I am also adding "Candle Shop Owner" to my list!!!
I own an event planning business. I've been in events for several years now, and started my business prior to getting engaged. I see a lot of people who want to own event planning companies after their own weddings! It's not nearly as fun when it's not your own though. It's really hard work.
I curently sell TuTus from home but i would love for it to grow! I do it from my home right now but I need to learn to make a few more things then headbands and tutus so I can open a little store!
I've always wanted to have a bookstore/cafe, but something like that would never happen in this economy. Plus, with this whole military wife thing, I would probably be better off starting an etsy shop or something transportable that I could do from my home.

What would you pick? Has anyone made that dream come true or is it just a fantasy at this point?
