And for the purposes of this lets also say that "continue to work" isn't an option.

Say you are very comfortable financially.

So bees, what would you do if you had the money you needed to comfortably live and didn't work?

I honestly think I'd start volunteering a lot more.  I get really bored with having nothing to do, so not doing something constructive would drive me up a wall!

    @abbie017:  I hear you there.

I'm basically stuck in a job search holding pattern at the moment. (i.e. applying for 20-30 jobs a week and not getting any bites). I've only been looking for work since October, but I'm starting to go stir crazy being a SAHW for the time being.

Volunteering is always a great use of time. Do you currently volunteer anywhere?

I would go to school to become a pastry chef and then open my own cake shop. I would definitely do more volunteering with single parents families.

I would probably still do what I do on the side (wedding photography) but as my full time job.

I think I'd actually enjoy being a SAHW, haha. But of course, I'd do other things to occupy my time. I think a big thing for me would be finding a local library and volunteering there, especially if I could do something like story time with little kids. :)

Honestly, I'd even be happy just putting books away. I've done that before and I liked it because books I never would have noticed otherwise would catch my eye and I could read the covers of them to see if it would interest me.

I'd also do a lot of baking. And I would be able to go for strolls more often which is something I love to do to clear my head, but I rarely have the time now.

ETA: And crafts! I love me some crafts.

I would love to take different types of courses.... language, cooking, art.  And I would LOVE to learn how to play the fiddle.... perhaps go to Ireland for some lessons, hahaha.

And I volunteer a bit now (local museum and soccer club), but I would love to be able to volunteer more, especially at a hospital or retirement home.

And if I don't win the lottery to be able to do this, I hope one of you other bee's win it!

I would get the gym every day and try to find some classes at the gym during the day to go to regularly.

Volunteer at a legal advice clinic for low-income people and probably a shelter too.

Take a class/lessons of some kind:  cooking, cake decorating or a musical instrucment.

Play the piano at my church every other Sunday to relieve my Mom.  I do once a month now, but I need more practice time to play more!

I would love to be a SAHW. I'd probably cook/bake a lot more, my mom used to make all of the pickled vegetables and preserves in our home and I miss that. I'm preparing for a career as a life coach so, even if I couldn't work, I'd continue to read read read all about these things, and advance my level of understanding of self and others. I'd volunteer a lot, probably to work with kids, and something that allows me the freedom to help them through my personal development/coaching skills.

After my daughter's initial therapy, schooling, activities were all lined up and in full swing (not yet, but soon!) I'd definitely work with AutismSpeaks.

For fun, I'd buy fabulous antique and vintage jewelry and fashion it into new creations. Maybe open a little business that's more for my enjoyment than profit.

And of course I would travel!

I would take up classes just for fun like photography or glass blowing.  I would travel, maybe even buy an luxury RV and just see the whole country before exploring the rest of the world.  And I would definitely find ways to volunteer and give back on all of my travels.  AND I would really focus on getting my body into "perfect" shape.

I'd travel, maybe open up a dog rescue, watch real housewives on my couch all damn day, and take some classes. Like pottery, photography, painting, etc.

Oh psh! This is an easy one for me. Embarassed

I would travel the world, adventurously!

Do lots of yoga, tai-chi type stuff. Keep myself super fit. And eat super-healthy. (Organic and fresh all the way!)

Make sure I am always looking beautiful so get facials, mani-pedi's, haircuts, etc very regularly.

Make friends in high places (I'm sure they will find me if I have this much moolah. lol!) and attend fancy-schmancy balls and events.

I would first move as close to the beach as possible. I would start my morning out with a walk on the beach with my dog (that I don't have yet). Wouldddd love to cook the more challenging recipes. I am into couponing and liked to do more with it so I would be able to donate products to area women & homeless shelters.

Well, if I didn't have to be at work right now, I'd be at home sleeping. I'm fading away as we speak!

I'd volunteer more and if we had enough money, make sure FI quit his job so he could enjoy life, too. I wouldn't buy a fancy house, I'd keep the car I have, but I would just enjoy myself and do anything and everything I ever wanted to make the world a better place!

I would get more into my hobbies -- cooking/baking, cross stitch, crochet, sewing, etc. etc. My house would be spotless and there would be a homecooked meal on the table every single night, and always fresh baked goods on the counter. (This is kind of how it is now, just much less glorified hahaha. I cook dinner every night and bake on the weekends but it's usually rushed.)

I would like to say that I'd start volunteering, blah blah, but honestly right now I would catch up on reading, movies, and TV shows!! I would do NOTHING and it would be amazing. I've been soo busy with work and school for so long that I would gladly take a break for a while. Maaaybe I would eventually get bored (so hard to imagine right now lol) and then I'd start volunteering or something :)

I would go to school and just take a million classes and write papers and take notes and read books and all that fun stuff!

I'd get more involved in my church and help them out.

I'd travel a lot, all over the place!

And I know you said 'continue to work' isn't an option, but I'd at least do something part time--something I loved that didn't pay very well like working at a library or tutoring kids. That would be awesome!

@kerri13:  This is pretty much how I feel hahaha. I was unemployed for a few months after college and I LOVED it. Caught up on all the sleeping, reading, movies, TV, etc. that I never had time for during college. Then I got my job and have approx 1 hr of free time every day between finishing dinner and going to bed, which is even worse than how it was in college. I am constantly exhausted and have no time to do anything at all anymore. If I could quit my job I would lay around and do nothing for a good solid month or two, and THEN start doing something else interesting haha.

@kerri13:  That's the thing! When I was working I thought I'd love to just have time to sit at home and watch tv/read/relax/whatever.

But after about 6 months of that I'm starting to go stir crazy. The first 2 months I was still neck deep in wedding planning and then moving to London. But now that all that has calmed down, I feel a bit useless some days.

You'd think the house would be cleaner but when you have all day to do these tasks, it's very hard to find motivation.

@JrzyGurl:  If the job search doesn't improve in the next month or so, I might just take a language class and maybe take the GMAT and look into getting my MBA as well.

I'd have babies and do laundry and clean things....I like housewifery.  My dream is to be able to volunteer at my kids' school.  Walk them to school, take them home for lunch, pick them up at the end of the day.

I'd also travel if we could (depending on my (fictional) babies of course).

Good question :) Volunteer at school functions for my (future) children. I'd volunteer at animal rescues or at the SPCA. I wish I could make a good living working with animals but I don't have the time or the stomach to become a vet. Lol.
