I already bought one of them, ages ago actually, but while waiting for it to be set in a ring I had some fun looking through old videos. I’m guessing most of you will prefer the other one actually, but let’s see!
I’m new to OECs (this’ll be a first) so would love to hear comments on why you picked A or B. next time I’ll get the other one, in a different color!
some more pics from different angles:
top row front-facing is stone B, bottom row front-facing is stone A
I can’t tell the difference. I suck at these things. Those are beautiful stones though and I can’t wait to see the one you picked set (and want to know which one you picked!) I picked A just bc the color looks slightly pinker than B. That’s the best I can give ya, sorry! lol
@futuremrsk18: to give you a hint, A has fatter rounder facets, B has somewhat more facets (yet still much chunkier than a round brilliant). A has a larger table (the flat center top of the stone), and a shallower crown (less of a protrusion). A reflects bigger flashes of light, B reflects more flashes. I’ll let you know which one I’ve picked a few more posts down (so people don’t accidentally see before they vote haha).
@cdncinnamongirl: yup it’s barely pink! I really liked it in person, but I only had it for a day before it was off to be set. *tear* aw try to describe why! even in the silliest most non-technical terms. xD
the beauty of OEC is that there’s so many variations, imo! there’s something for everyone.
@patchy: oh gosh, that would be so hard to decide between bigger flashes and more flashes. i think i’d still stick to A, but i can totally see that you can’t go wrong with either one!!! thanks for teaching me something new today 🙂
@futuremrsk18: modern round brilliant was designed to maximize sparkle, so small and numerous facets throwing off billions of pinpricks of light. old cuts were cut by hand, so they were less “shiny” but more “loud” when they did shine.
stone A is a pretty good example of older chunky facets. stone B is more of a hybrid, imo, but seriousy don’t learn from me I don’t know what I’m talking about either. xD
here was the original vid I got all the screencaps from, btw! I picked B (the stone that starts off facing away in the beginning), but it was a REALLY tough choice, and it was more of a gut feeling than anything. if I’d compared stills carefully, like I am now, I might’ve gone with A. but I just like the ‘personality’ of B from the video, I guess! weird!!!
and haha I was right, most people do prefer A from the screencaps. I would too, I think! well… only one way to correct that… take better pics of it once it’s settled in its new home! ;D
