Ooooh! This is fun! I want to play!
I think this dress could have worked on someone... but NOT me! I'm a very simple, clean lines, classic elegance sort of lady... not over-the-top frill lady (but for someone who was, this dress would be great!). I felt like a cupcake and I felt like it made me look larger than I am. I was cracking up in this picture!
@missfenway: I am 5ft and petite, My dream dress was this Oscar De la Renta one, well out of my price range so I tried on heaps of provonvias ones like it, they all swamped me. I ended up going for a completely different style altogether, even though I would have never picked the maggie sottero one out of a magazine, on me it was perfect.

I first found this Marchesa dress on a blog, and I literally fell in love with it.
Then, a couple weeks later I saw it on the cover of a major bridal magazine and KNEW it needed to be be mine.
Well, I found a store that carried it and tried it on... and MY OH MY.
IT LOOKED DISGUSTING ON ME! I wish I had a picture of it on me, but there were no pictures allowed in the salon.

Haha this is awesome!

I loved this dress from jim hjelm, but when I tried it on it just wasn't doing anything for me. :(
I'm noticing a frilly theme! It takes a special kind of woman to pull off ruffles!
For me it was sleeves! I loved this dress online and on the hanger, but once it was ON me, it made me look like a granny/linebacker. I'm about a street size 12 but this dress was so unflattering!

Oh this is fun! The sales lady just told me this was the dress for me. I went alone and almost fell into the trap. It was my first time ever trying any dresses and had no clue what I wanted. So glad I waited to go with my mom. They added sleeves because I really wanted sleeves. I look back now I look like I am in my jammies. And no I was not preggers, for some reason that is how I held my hands in all o them.
I wish the place allowed photos so you could all have a laugh..
The girl in the appointment before me tried this dress on, loved it and bought it on the spot. I thought it was stunning on her, so I tried it on thinking it would look great on me as well.. errrr big mistake!!

Lol this thread is awesome!
Here's my swing and a miss...I wasn't attracted to silhouettes like this but they told me to try something different LOL!
I thought this dress was everything I wanted... light, lacy, sleeves, interesting details in the back. And it had mostly great reviews online.

Then I put it on... the boning in the bodice was shaped weird over my bust, it obliterated my waist and hit all the wrong parts on me... this pic's great because my stance pretty much shows how unimpressed I was

Fun thread!
I LOVE lace and had always thought that I wanted an all lace ball gown. This dress was so beautiful but SHEESH was it heavy!!!

Most of us bees who have visited the dress boards for months have tried on countless dresses. I havem't tried on a ton, but I can tell you that I've tried on a few that have not worked for me whatsover. For a good laugh, let's post the dresses that were a big NoNo and did not work for you at all.
Here is mine...
Such a gorgeous gown, and I'm sure on the right bride that it looks absolutely beautifu!!! On my 5'5" 32 A frame....not so much :-/
How about everyone else? What was your swing and a miss gown?
