Hey bees! Just got my ring appraised yesterday, having had no idea what it was worth for the past almost 6 months. The diamond is a family stone which was bought in the 1970s and the original appraisal is lost! I found out 2 things I didn’t know about it before:
– When I first got engaged, FMIL told me that the diamond was .67 carats.. well the appraisal says it is actually .71 carats, which is cool 🙂
– We (FI’s family, my family, FI, and myself) were guessing the ring was worth between 2 and 3k… come to find out, it is worth $4,100?!!!! Which completely blew me away!
$4,100 may not sound like much to some other bees and call me crazy, but I feel like the luckiest girl in the world walking around with something so valuable on my finger! 🙂
What is your ring worth? Pictures pretty please 🙂

That’s great! It’s gorgeous — enjoy it!! 🙂

Yeah when I first figured out how much mine was worth I was a little startled by walking around with that on my finger. Don’t want to give the number (although you could add poll!), but the fact that it was worth more than my car felt a little strange.

Awesome! I’m in the same situation as you, hasn’t been apraised yet, but looking forward to learning more about the ring, diamond and what it is worth!

We got lucky in that my husband bought my engagement ring from a family friend jeweler who was getting ready to retire. He was able to buy it for pretty close to wholesale price and when we got it appraised for our insurance policy it ended up being 2 times what we paid for it. It was pretty exciting to find that out.

I’m not sure of the exact price. All I know is that it’s a ring from the 30s that was bought for $100. It is now worth over $3K.

@leebaby711: So crazy! See, I was thinking my diamond would appraise for much less because there is a teeny tiny nick in the side of the girdle. I thought this would greatly affect what it is worth but it only ended up knocking a couple hundred bucks off of it.

Mine is worth 31k- so on the lowest end of the 30-50k poll range above!

Mine has been appraised at over 20K due to platnium setting and good quality of diamonds. I know I too am a lucky girl….I wasn’t expecting it! I always look at my ring in awe

Oops I didn’t read before I voted….I voted for what FI paid rather than appraisal value, which was close to twice what he paid for it! I should have voted 7-10 thou…

Keep in mine appraisals tend to be inflated. If you pay insurance based on these you might b getting ripped off. I found that out when I lost my first ring ( insurance through jewelers mutual)

very pretty! It is a bit unnerving though, isn’t it? I rarely wore jewelry before my ER, just the occassional right hand ring (really simple, really inexpensive) and sometimes necklaces (like what you get at Target or the Limited). I still check my hand throughout the day, although it’s mostly subconscious now.

I know what my FI paid for my rings, but we’ve never had it appraised. That is awesome news, though! 🙂
