I feel you!

I’m in a professional line of work (M.D.) and I have honestly never had an email go past the end of the business day. Whether I email at 11:00 AM or 4:00 PM- I get a response back before the end of the day or shift (depending which ends later). I’ve even had people email me back at 10/11PM. And- not all my emails are about patient care!

I’m really frustrated in the planning process because people can NOT seem to email me back! Like- I understand that they’re doing other things with their lives, but it just seems like the expectation that exists in my work place does not extend to those in wedding planning.

Though- I have communicated with photographers and venues that are FABULOUS. There was a venue that literally emailed me back within 10 minutes every time that I spoke with them. I’m actually wanting to go with them JUST BECAUSE that type of communication fits my style.

Too bad FI has his eyes set on another venue…

@Chrysoberyl:  Preach, sister. My event coordinator for my venue is like this with email, as is my caterer. They are much easier to get in touch with via phone, but honestly, I prefer email so much more! I like having a record of our conversations so I can remember everything! Also, I work a 9-5 job, and I can’t be chatting on the phone with vendors all day without getting reprimanded by my boss. Email, on the other hand, is a much more discrete method of communication.

In general, though, it boggles my mind that this many people in the wedding industry are so bad at responding to emails! My favorite is when I email a vendor multiple times, then they finally respond with “when is a good time to call you?” Yell

This drives me crazy! I’ve had so much trouble with it, and I assumed it’s just because lots of people in Telluride aren’t overwhelmingly responsible, but I guess it happens everywhere.

Yes! I emailed pretty much every restaurant in town (about 20) about our rehearsal dinner and reception, and only got about 4 responses, most of which were more than a week after I originally emailed. I ended up going with a place that was a lot more expensive than I planned, mostly because the coordinator actually responded to my emails. I’ve only emailed one florist so far, but it’s been 3 days and I haven’t heard anything. I understand if people are too busy to send a quote right away, but they could just email and say “I’m very busy now, so it will be ____ days until I cam get you a quote, but I will respond to you then.”

@Chrysoberyl:  I find that once you pay the deposit people respond less. I’ve had it with a few of my vendors and they will be getting bad reviews after the wedding. I don’t care if everything else comes out spectacular.

@Chrysoberyl:  It blows my mind that some of them will set their own deadlines for responding to me (i.e., “I’ll send you a quote by Wednesday”) and STILL miss the deadline. Come on, man!

@Chrysoberyl:  My guess would be maybe they are finding bigger jobs because its such a popular time for a wedding and then ditching you which is AWFUL and totally rude! As for the caterer you booked I have no clue what his deal is but hopefully he answers soon!

@Chrysoberyl:  Haha your post made me seriously laugh out loud! I share your frustration. The worst was when I was trying to get our venue contract sorted out over the phone (they’re in Florida, I was in Alaska) and I’d finally have the catering manager on the phone, she’d say she was emailing something to me right at that moment… and a week later… still nothing! I know she’s busy, but don’t say you’re sending something if you’re really not! We managed to get the contract done in the end, but the lack of responsiveness was really nerve-wracking.

I have periodically sent her some small questions via email with no response, and I kind of brushed it off… but now our reception is only 2 months away, I’m starting to get nervous!
