Hey everyone! So my fiance and I are thinking about getting married June 30, 2013! (: Currently no family members know and only a select few of my best friends know about it but nobody knows we have made it official because he is deployed right now and we talked about when he gets back we want to get married. We’ve been together for a year and a half today! We started dating June 10, 2011 We just haven’t told anyone yet because he wants to wait until he comes back and he wants to ask my dad in person for my hand in marriage… even though we’ve already planned on him saying yes and he also wants to do his own little cute proposal when he gets back. I’m super excited and I just want to start getting prepared for what all I have to do. Like I need help with a checklist of everything that goes along with the wedding… budgeting, bridesmaids, parties, guest lists, venues… basically I seriously need help from the top, I don’t know where to start! lol So if anyone can help I’m all ears! I greatly appriciate it!!!
also, if anyone knows anything about what to do about extra things for the wedding with my fiance being in the military could you help me out pleaseeee (:

Congratulations! I second the Knot checklist. It’s pretty comprehensive!
I think the first thing to do is figure out your budget and guest list – then you’ll know how much you can spend on each part of the wedding. Next, book a venue and start dress shopping! I think there’s an organization that gives free dresses to ladies planning military weddings, but I’m blanking on the name. Once the wedding venue is booked, send out save the dates – June is a popular wedding month and you want to give your out of town guests time to make travel arrangements.

First things I would do is come up with a guest list range so you can know how many people to plan for (because this will affect the venue and budget). Then you probably want to decide what type of wedding you want. Saturday night party? Destination wedding? Brunch? Backyard wedding? Etc
Then I would write down what the 2 or 3 most important things are for you (photography? great food? the venue? party atmosphere? dress? flowers?). Then I would try to come up with a budget and I would focus $ into the areas which were most important to you. Put less $ (or none at all) into those that aren’t as important
As far as what to research and book first….I would start with the venue and photography because those tend to be the most expensive things and if you do them wrong you can end up way over budget once you add everything else to it. Get all your vendors booked ASAP because some of them will be booked a year in advance.
Since you’re only 6 months out I would send out Save the dates (if you are wanting that) and go dress shopping too ASAP because a lot of places will say it takes 4-6+ months for a dress to come in.
Checklists will help. Though I personally created my own checklist and timeline in Word based on a few different lists and I tailored it to my personal taste/timeline. It actually changed quite a bit from the beginning to now!

My friends got me this book when I got engaged:
It’s been a lifesaver and I recommend it to all newly-engaged ladies!

I hate TheKnot.com. Personally, I prefer http://www.weddingwire.com. They have a checklist, vendor search (much more complete than The Knot’s vendor search), guest list tool, etc.
Like others said… first come up with a budget and guest list. Then go from there.

I agree – budget and guest list. I also made a wedding binder. I can message you the link to my DIY binder if you’d like. I include all of the worksheets I found and made that were helpful.
