Im considering joining a gym but need to work out if I can afford it. Going to start a new job soon so I will wait until I get my first paycheque. I plan on cycling to work most days depending on the weather. let us know how you get on.

We just moved to a new apartment that comes with it’s own facility. I’m currently 7 months pregnant, so I can really only use it to walk slowly on the treadmill, but I can’t wait until after baby is here to start cranking it out on that thing!!!

I did!  I have never had an actual gym membership- just a family membership that I never used much, but now I am going with SO.  My goal is to increase my upper body strength and back strength since I’m pretty imbalanced (really strong legs).  In about two weeks of working out, I have already started to see results and I’m so excited about it.  My abs are getting visibly defined (from the obliques machine) and I was able to bench press the bar (haha 45 lb- it’s a victory for me) for the first time last visit.  The big difference this time around for me is that aside from the obliques machine and the pull-up assist machine, SO and I are completely avoiding machines.  When using free weights, a lot more mental awareness is necessary (you can’t just knock out reps because you have to concentrate on maintaining your form) and it’s made me a lot more in-tune with my goals.  I also am having less difficulty adjusting because the movements are less isolated than with the machine.  

Oops- I lied, I’m also using the adductor and abductor machines.  But basically only using machines where I can’t think of a good way to do it using free weights- no machine arm curls or chest fly or whatever.

@Girasole:  I joined a gym! I’ve been taking classes there. Like boot camps and yoga. I don’t want to lose weight though, just to get fit. It’s going well though.
