I am pretty new to the boards but I just need to VENT! My Fiance and I have been engaged for a year now. Our wedding is in July. I have booked the venue, church, got the dress, photographer, booked the hotels, sent out save the dates, and booked the rehearsal dinner. I think I’m doing okay. I am ordering the bridesmaids dresses next week. The problem is I live in Florida and am getting married in NY. I also just made a huge career change and am also now a full time college student. I work for my school 20 hours a week and am taking classes full time. Right now I am on break and am trying to get some of the planning done over xmas break. We really wanted to taste the food. Do you think it’s way too early or silly to do this? I will be back in May for the shower. I am having trouble staying on top of all the planning with my school and new found financial stress.
One last thing, we are having photographer problems. We had our E session and I was less than thrilled. I specifically asked for head shots for the paper. Nope–they didn’t get that. I don’t even have a pic I like enough for a Xmas card. The pics made us look like we were at two different “parties”. The whole session was rather uncomfortable because they weren’t telling us what to do. I would say should I smile? Should I do this? I just needed some direction! Now we are meeting with them next week to talk about our wedding. I plan to take some of the E sessions from their blog site and let them know which ones I liked. I also wanted to review our pics and tell them what I liked and didn’t like. I am worried and upset. Pics are so important to me. I know we can do better because my FI’s sister, who is not a photographer, took pics that were 100x better. I am worried we are going to look awful on the big day. We put down half our deposit–$900 and I will lose it if we try to get out of our contract.
Thanks for listening:-)

Sorry you’re stressed. I don’t think it’s silly to taste the food now. As for your photographer, I think you have a good plan. Could it be that your friend’s pics were better b/c you were more comfortable? I think you should explain what you liked and didn’t like and that you feel you need more direction. If you like the photog’s pics in general, I’m sure it will be fine. I think most can change their style a bit. I am sure you will look fabulous!

I understand because I’m a full time student too. I don’t think anything is too early if this is when you’ll have time to do it. I go through planning spurts at various times in the semester when I have time. I’m not sure what to do about the photographer because I haven’t had any problems with mine. I would try posting about that in the photography section so people with more photogrophy experience can make a suggestion. Hope the planning goes well! Don’t forget to ask for help when you get in over your head!

I completely understand how you feel about pictures! I think that pictures are extremely important. What will I have to show my daughter some day!? All I will have will be pictures and I dont want to regret the pictures I have. I hate that you might lose your money if you try and get out of your contract, but you photographer should be all about you!!!! I love the photographer that we decided to go with! She has just recently started her business, but her friendlyness and her inspiration to take crazy, fun, and new photos! I wish I could lend you my photographer but we are in Pa! Sorry to hear about all your problems!

I am like you we live in Florida and are getting married in NY in July. You have time to do things. My parents have been in charge of planning the wedding and I got to go see my venue in person in Novemeber. I am going to NY in April and that is when I will be going to the florist to actually pick out the colors and arrangements, going to the DJ to actually pick out the playlists, Meeting with the photo and video to actually pick out what poses and pictures, and my favorite going to the bakery for cake tasting. All the places said doing it in April was plenty of time for them and it would of been silly to do those things when I was there in November. I will not get to do a food tasting but my parents and sister did so I trust the reviews are good and in April I will go to the venue again to go over more details and pick the menu. So as long as you pick everything May would be fine to go over all the details with the different venders.

@Lisamr:Thanks for your input! I think I will have plenty of time. Sometimes being far away is just so hard when you are trying to plan and don’t get up there so often!

My wedding is in June and I have the photographer, the dj, and did the tasting already… I don’t think it’s too early!
