Hi! New here, and thought I’d do an intro. I’m still finding it surprising that I joined, since I’ve never been into the whole marriage thing. But then again, nothing about this relationship has been the “norm” for me…
I met my BF on an online dating site, something I vowed never to do–not because I have anything against it, but because it wasn’t “me.” But I lost a bet and had to sign up for online dating. I did so begrudgingly but swore I wouldn’t date anyone more than 15 miles away (no more LDR for me)! So when my now BF contacted me through the site, and I saw he lived 100 miles away, in another state, I almost ignored the email. But his picture… Ladies, if you’ve ever dated online, I’m sure you’ve seen your share of shirtless men doing the macho face. But his made me laugh out loud: He was wearing a wig with purple pony tails!! It was enough to make me read his profile and scroll through the rest of his (normal) photos.
Our first date–an hour-long coffee date–last over three hours, and he was planning the second before the first ended. Pretty soon, we were spending every weekend together. Now as I said, I was never into mushy wedding/marriage stuff. I vowed I’d never move for a guy, or leave a career for a guy, but just eight months after that first date, I was packing up my belongings and moving in. (He was willing to move up my way, but after lots of discussion and soul-searching, we decided I’d move.) I’ve been here just over four months, and we couldn’t be happier.
The proposal isn’t an “if” but a “when.” The ring, a family heirloom, is being reset as I type this. For our first anniversary, he gave me a promise ring, saying he doesn’t want to propose during the summer because I hate the heat and humidity. Now here I am, the girl who never planned on ever getting married, eagerly reading everyone’s proposal stories and getting more and more excited to commit myself to this wonderful man.
Thanks for letting me share. Now that I live far away from my girlfriends, I missed having people to gush with. Please share about your SOs and how you’re passing the time until the proposal!
