Congrats on putting down the deposit! When we did that for ours, I felt it was such a permanent step in actually Having This Wedding.

I'm sending out STDs in the next few months, even though my wedding isn't 'til next October, but that's a conscious decision because most of our guests are out of town, and around a third are literally on the other side of the world, so I want them to feel they're able to make plans early (and as cheaply as possible)! Otherwise I think 4-6 months is average?

I had real trouble with colours, except that every time I imagined the room I could see what I didn't want it to look like. We're going with green and white, because it just felt right to us. Not terribly autumnal, but we are having our reception on the river in Central London, so it's not your typical autumn scene!

I just got a bunch of magazines, looked at a bunch of websites, and just kept putting my ideas together until something really stuck.

YAY! Congrats on getting that deposit down. I had my eek moment when I did that too! I had by HUGE EEEEK moment when we went back and set up the menu! I started out by buying magazined & putting everything I liked into a book. Dress, hair, idead everything! You can get great ideas off this site and tons of other sites online and once you pic your colors, you will have some ideas of what you want to do.

I'm sending out our STD in Nov to people out of town so that gives them 6 months to make plans :) Good luck!!

" Haaa .. i can soo see myself with a book.. thanx ladiies ... and wonderlanded those colors are my fav.. looks so nice together..

Yay! Congrats!!! Booking the venue always makes everything feel so much more real - I was SO excited when we finally booked ours!

Oh, and it's typical to send out STDs about 6-9 months before the wedding. Like the others said, you'd do it closer to 9 months if you have a bunch of out of town guests, but if not, 4-6 months is okay too!

    Congrats!

Now you can focus on booking other vendors, finding your dress, the attire for the wedding party, etc, etc.

    Congratulations on choosing a venue!

I would make a guest list to see how many guests are out of town- the sooner they know about the wedding the better! They have to make travel arrangements AND account for paid time off at work if they have to travel far. Then I'd send STD cards late November/ early December.

As for colors, September is technically autumn, so you could go either way. If your date is closer towards the end of the month, I would do more fall colors/ jewel tones and if it was closer to the beginning, I would do more summery colors cause it's still warm.

As far as choosing colors, I found this site really helpful. You just click on the colors you like, and it finds pictures that use those colors. At some point, I got a palette that basically took my breath away, and I knew that was it. Plus, it was fun to sit with my fiance and randomly click on color boxes :)

For STDs, I'm also getting married in the middle of next September, and I'm planning to send out my STDs with my holiday cards. It seems easier to do it that way, rather than doubling on postage, paper, and time to write out addresses. And of course, prior to sending out STDs, you have to get a guest list going!

As for vendors, I'd start looking into caterers (if your venue doesn't have an exclusive contract with anyone), photographers, and DJ/bands, since those are the people who actually have to be at your wedding and therefore physically can't be double-booked.
