I never sat in the car with it running but I used to sit in the car and talk to my SO when I was in high school and early college years. We would pull up to either of our houses and would sometimes spend 30-60 minutes talking (or making out). I do think it’s a waste of gas to keep the car running though!

ETA: do you really think they’re just talking 😉

@Kacey23:  Wasn’t there a recent report of a couple in the US who died in a car while they were doing the deed (with the engine running)? The article said something like “it was suggested that the couple were engaged in sexual activity as they were found partially clad”…

I’d do that ALL the time in high school. Even with girlfriends aka people I didn’t make out with. 😛 It was kind of like a cheat to curfew. Technically I was at home so I squeezed out as much more hang out time as I could.

@southsun:  My HS BFF used to spend HOURS in the car talking in front of my house!

@southsun:  Agreed!

@Kacey23:  I used to do this with bfs when I lived at home! That way we could talk (or not talk…) without people butting in, my ex bf and I also used to go and park in isolated neighborhood areas and not talk haha,

Edt: We def used to turn off the car tho…

It’s young love. That’s what you do when you’re young and still living with your parents and you want some privacy.

Oh hell yes… all the time when I was a teenager. It was the only place we could get any privacy!

Haha yep, we would park at a nearby park and spend hours talking and making out! It was great us time with no chance of anyone overhearing. But we turned off the car and huddled under blankets!

And actually now that I think about it, I sit by myself in my car still. Right when I get home or when I have a few minutes before going into work. Its a nice little decompress time before I start second shift, whether that’s at home or work.

I used to do this all the time. With friends just chatting or with boys doing more than chatting. Unless it was winter though we didn’t leave the car running and even then it would be off and on to trying to save gas!

@Kacey23:  oh goodness, I would do this all the time in high school with my friends or a guy. We would just talk and listen to the radio until finally someone was too tired to function and they left and I went inside.

When I was in high school/just out of high school I actually did this a lot with friends. Especially if it was later at night, and we didn’t want to go inside and wake anyone up. We’d just sit in the car and talk. I don’t think it’s that unusual.
