Dear Citi credit card,
I made my final payment on you today. Even though I had to dig into some of my scant savings to do it, I feel good. I feel empowered. I’ve allowed you and your interest rate to hurt and abuse me long enough. I’ve given in to your temptation too many times. You used to seem too good to be true – and I know now that you were. Your points and introductory rates weren’t worth the heartache and the pain.
I know I am responsible for my own role in this doomed affair. I accept responsibility for my actions in the past. But this is my future, and I am done crying over you.
Now I have more money each month toward paying down your hated brethren – Visa and Discover. Don’t call me. Don’t bother to write. It’s over.

@mshoagie: It does! I have a long way to go in paying down my cards altogether, but this is an encouraging step. It makes me believe in myself a little more.

Congratulations! I paid off my credit card last year in September and it felt SO GOOD! Every small step counts, and this was a super big step in your journey toward paying everything off.

Thanks for the cheers, everyone! My next step is “Dear Visa Card.” I think it will take 3-4 months of DISCIPLINE – it’s so hard when I’m planning a wedding and want to buy all the pretty things!

Congrats! I got into debt with one visa card. Luckily it was just a low limit. But after that experience I got rid of it and refuse to have another. I spend my own money, so that way I don’t pay someone else to spend theirs.
