LadySmurph:  I just have a hatred for mini-vans.  I think an SUV would be fine, but a mini-van may be easier for loading people in and out.

LadySmurph:  3 carseats in a single backseat is a nightmare – I know from experience.  If you’re thinking longterm vehicle and 3 is possible – go van.

Get an SUV with a third row of seats.

I am also a hater of mini vans

Definitely NOT a minivan haha.  So many other options to choose from, especially when you’re only a family of 4!

I hate minivans, but I now have three kids (I got a step daughter when I married).  I am definitely getting a mini van just because they are more convenient.  If you are thinking of a 3rd kid, I’d get the van.

LadySmurph:  Ford Expedition, for example has a third row and is an SUV

The one in our old one was not pop up and would be safe. Also, totally wasn’t a “mini-van mom” type car. We used it in college for the DD to haul around our 6 or 7 drunk asses. It was like a small party bus!

I’m not a minivan person. Until very recently, I had a Dodge Durango. You could fit 8 adult comfortably in it. I’m not sure if it was an SUV or a school bus.

LadySmurph:  I would go for the one with better gas mileage. Expense wise that will make the biggest difference over the years.

We have 3 kids and have a Chevy Traverse….we love it! It has the 3rd row of seats, so it seats 7. The middle row is 2 bucket seats and then the full seat in the back.

LadySmurph:  I am a nanny to multiple children and keep 4 car seats in my SUV at all times. I sure wish I would have gone with the mini van. They are so much more practical. (I have heard) A minimum of 53″ of interior hip space is needed to fit 3 car seats in the same row.

It is extremely difficult to get a rear facing seat in a back seat if you can’t open the door all the way. The sliding doors of a mini van eliminate that problem.

LadySmurph:  My Dh and I don’t have any kids but we do have a minivan. It’s our “family car”. It’s suprisingly convenient. I’d say go for the van. But I’m a SUV hater.
