@tksjewelry: Yeah if it's raining we have to have the ceremony at the reception site anyway so all my parade stuff would just either go to waste or I could use it for the "getaway" at the end of the night.
I love it! Martha Stewart actually featured a wedding in June (I think) where they got married at a courthouse and then walked to the restaurant and they made a really cute banner, too.
@jo.lee:I thought that was a really cute wedding.
I think the parade idea is very cute!
@nmsoonerbride: I think it's been my favorite one featured in a mag so far :).
Was the Martha Stewart one online or in the mag? I just searched her site for 'courthouse wedding' but got nothin'. lol
I believe one of the bees had walked from the ceremony site to the reception site but I can't remember which one right off hand.
this is actually very similar to a second line...a brass band parade where the people following twirl umbrellas and handkerchiefs. i'm doing this at my wedding, so no i don't think it's juvenile at all!
It's a gosh darn huge deal ! (your wedding) and I think it's a lovely idea that reminds me of old school Italy when parties were PAH-TAYS ! Do it and I can't wait to see pics !
i wanted to do this, but my hubby wasn't into it... then recently we saw a parade of people, and it looked so joyous and lovely and fun that i regret i didn't go for it anyway! hubby agreed we should have done it :)
do you have any elderly or disabled guests? our venues were similarly like 10 min walk apart, but we had a small shuttle just to make sure my great aunts and a few other older/frailer guests would be okay getting there and back
I think it's a cute idea! Personally, I know I'd get a kick about the kazoo!
@finnaroo: Ahhh we do have some older guests but they are all pretty mobile. I'm not sure what I can work out for anyone who has a hard time making the trip...maybe I can rent a van from enterprise and ask someone to drive it? Thanks for the reminder!
@vttp926: I think it was Mrs. Star! That's exactly who I thought of when I read this.

@kate169: Here is another one of Mrs. Star's posts on the subject

aw i think it is so fun. if i went to a wedding and they did that, i would be ecstatic! sounds like a lot of fun.
We did do a parade and it was SO much fun! And we got great pictures. I say go for it! Just have a back-up plan in mind in case of rain (ours was to shove everyone into cabs, haha).
What an awesome idea!! You could ask your BMs or GMs to make some cute banners for people to hold. I would TOTALLY hold a great 'Just Married' banner adorned with ribbons and stuff for your 'parade'. Great idea!
Its adorable and fun! If they think its juvenile they're going to leave right after dinner anyways so who cares about them? Haha in Bolivia (where I am from) they do parades to the reception. They dance in the street, its beautiful. Just make sure you have a handful of people to start the wand twirling and all that, everyone else will follow suit!

My ceremony venue is a historic building in one of the three cities of the historic triangle (I'm not going to say which for privacy because I've shared my date lol) here in Virginia. The reception is a stone's throw away.
Due to parking restrictions, people are going to have to make a short five minute walk to our ceremony venue and make the same walk to the reception afterwards. I wish we were able to hire out a trolley or something to transport them back and forth but our budget is really not that kind of a budget!
My coordinator suggested we basically parade from the ceremony to the reception. There should be about 50-55 of us so not too big of a parade group. I'm thinking of making ribbon wands and buying some plain white kazoos I found on oriental trading for super cheap, but my only concern is that people will think those two things are juvenile (the kazoos and ribbon wands). I just thought they would be fun and make the parade photos really stand out.
What do you think? Kazoos and ribbon wands...juvenile or fun??
