I think they are a miracle (TMI ahead, turn away if you will be tramatized). I have had 2 kids and only did them with the second. There are times that I know I need to do them more such sneezing when I have to go to the bathroom, before and during Turbo kick class or any other jumping activity, before I take the dog for a run. this didn't happen until after my second, but I can tell the difference when I have been doing them for a while. sorry if this is too desciptive.
Great post MightySapphire...
TMI ahead. I have two cousins who work in the industry and they both said to make sure I do the kegels. In one case, the lady's area wasn't "strong" enough that her uterus essentially "fell out". Can you say Ew! They have seen many cases like this so they deem them important.
When your pelvic floor you can have a prolapsed uterus, bladder (any of your pelvic organs) which means that they can sag downward or fall down.
It is very important to keep your pelvic floor nice and strong (by doing kegals). A good measure of pelvic floor strength is if you can stop your morning pee mid strength.
I'm at work. And I'm doing kegels. right. now.
HA! When I had physical therapy, she used an ultrasound to help me learn how to do kegels. That way I could actually see the muscle moving and then associate that movement with the way the movement feels. Also, the stopping mid-pee is a great trick, the more you do it, the easier it is to do it normally. I'm not pregnant (nor planning on it), but it's been great for core strength. And my BF likes it too. ;)
Maybe it's just me but.. doing kegels feel great! It's seriously almost orgasmic haha I love doing them! lolol
Sadly, I am not sure whether I am doing them correctly if that makes any sense? All I am told is to squeeze, lol. If that is all it is, I do them quite often, lol...
@Roddy, it shouldn't be a squeezing...i.e. no clenching your butt cheeks. Try the peeing thing. When you're peeing, stop midstream and that's what a kegel is. Only do it when you're not peeing too. :D
@Mimosa. I totally agree. I do them in the mornings to get 'ready' for my BF to pounce. Otherwise I'm not in the mood at all!
@Roddy: Pretend your husband is inside you and try to squeeze down on his manhood. (Sorry ladies, I know that last sentence was...well, sorry!) That's a Kegel.
I never do them (other than while having sex/getting the big O). But I can stop my pee just fine ALL the time. I guess I'm going to start doing them, just because no I don't want a prolapsed bladder or uterus. And I don't want to pee when I cough.
I didn't do them because they seriously are too intense for me...weird, I know. I had a 10lb 5oz baby boy vaginally with no pain medication after 5 hours of labor and 20 minutes of pushing. Not sure how the kegels could have made it any better.

Bee Mommas:
Did you do kegels while you were pregnant? If you did, do you think you healed quicker post-pregnancy? If you didn't, did that have any impact on you?
I'm just wondering exactly how they help and what they do. I haven't really been doing them, but I'm wondering if I will regret that choice!
