So my kettle finally kicked the bucket tonight. It was an electric kettle I got as a house warming gift a couple of years ago from a good friend. It decided tonight it was going to boil dry instead of auto shut off. So before it could do that I went over to check it and it was leaking, smoking and had some flames…YAY!
So needless to say, I am in the market for a kettle. I use it multiple times a day for every little thing. So I need something durable that can withstand constant use. I am leaning more towards getting a stove top kettle rather than another electric one even though electric ones do boil water faster. I am just afraid of another electrical fire incident and I don’t like throwing things out in a landfill every couple of years. Like even now I am struggling as to how to properly dispose of this electric kettle.
Also I would prefer to avoid anything plastic, and bonus points if it is not made in China but it is ok if it is.

We’ve had, and used, the Calypso 2.2 Qt Whistling tea kettle for almost 2 years (about 3x/wk) and I have no complaints. We got ours from this website: http://fantes.com/kettles.html (it’s about a third of the way down the page).
@malisa0607: I love the LeCreuset kettles. I wish I could justify buying one to my husband. Or anything LeCreuset.

I bought a Chef’s Choice electric kettle back in 2005 and for the money it has been one of the best purchases I have ever made. I would not hesitate to recommend one to anyone interested in an electric kettle upgrade. I wrote a review on this particular kettle since I really do love it.

We registered for -and got!- the OXO “Good Grips” Uplift™ Stainless Steel Tea Kettle. Our friends had it and my husband loves the fact that the handle pivots at the front so you don’t get burned by steam.

I got one from Kohl’s that has the tea insert because I get loose tea sometimes. I couldn’t find it on the website, but its black and the insert goes into the top, handle on the side. Also has a timer on the top. I really like it, the only thing I don’t like is that if you fill it too much and let it boil some of the tea will come out of the spout because there’s no spout topper
