So I was in Target yestarday, buying handweights, and saw...a kettlebell.  I bought it on impulse (15lbs) and did the DVD that came with it last night.  I can barely move this morning :)  It was AMAZING.

Any other bees doing kettlebells?  What were your results?  Any workout suggestions?

I do kettlebells! We actually have 4 classes/week at the dojo where DH and I train for martial arts... We only do 1 class per week, but have some at home and use them for.

Although it's very efficient, I am slowing down on classes for a while, because I'm training for a 10k race, and after doing an intense Kettlebell class, I'm soar for days and not motivated to run... So I only use the ones we have at home and do the exercices I know, but for 15 minutes, not 1 hour!

egb, I did 25 minutes last night and I am grunting everytime I try to stand up :)  I think sticking to shorter workouts with the kettlebell is a good idea for me too.  I would like to keep doing my circut training and walk/jogs as well.  Thanks for the info :)

I do a weekly class as one of my weight training days. I like kettlebells and the great workout, but am not in love with the class itself. Maybe I'll check out Rosiebear's recommendation at Target.

I use them a lot - I am a semi professional boxer, and they are the best for building muscle and toning.  Since yours is 15lbs, you wont bulk up a ton, so dont worry about that, but youll def tone.  I have a bunch of workouts if you are interested, but most of them are prob on the DVD.  One of my favorites is actually the exercise in the video above.  CONTROL when you swing both up and down though, dont just lob it,  it works on both the upswing and the down swing.  PLus it works your glutes.  Do reps of those intertwined with 3 minutes of jumproping and back to KBs again and its a serious calorie burner.

Also, hold it with both hands over your head, keep your elbows IN (upper arms next to your ears) and lower it slowly behind your head to the base of your neck and back up.  Do some reps of those.  You can also do that laying down to target a diff muscle group.  Love kettlebells :)

Wow...I had no idea those things were so efficent when it came to working out. I may take your recommendation and head out to see what I can find by way of the kettlebell, especially since its only 25 min. Thanks!

KellyV and JadeBlue, Thanks SO much for the suggestions!  I will give the swing/jump rope routine a try.  I'm naturally very muscular (but overweight) so I have always avoided strength training.  I'm finding now that I really do need strength training, and doing these exercises mixed with cardio makes a huge difference for me.  I feel stronger and more energetic.  The extra muscle mass will only help me improve my physical health.  I really appreciate all the suggestions!  Thanks SO much!

Von and Shannon, it was a total impuse buy for me, I really did'nt even know what I was buying.  I had just heard about them from friends.  I'm really happy I tried it.   The 15lb was $40 with the DVD, but I try not to put a price on health ;)

@Rosiebear - I am very muscular as well, by nature.  When I work out, I tend to gain muscle rapidly.  KEtlles are notorious for that, but like I said, dont do too much weight (15lbs is good for now) and max out the reps with a minimum of 12 so it promotes lean mass and not bulk.  when you add the jump roping, it confuses your body/muscles and burns a TON of calories.  Jump rope is greatCool
