My soon to be fiancé and I went into a Kay’s jewelers for kicks and giggles since I was so set on the Adele ring from gemvara, he wanted to make sure I was sure I didn’t want a real diamond verse a color stone.
Long storore to short I feel in love with a center tanzanite stone with a diamond halo. The price is in our range too. I am in love with this ring.
But it all the reviews onlines say not to buy from them. What do you ladies think? Should we get the ring from Kay’s jewelers or look elsewhere?

We went to Kay and loved them. Very friendly, helpful, clean and fix it anytime there’s a problem (only once, center diamond was loose). It depends on the individual store, but I’ve never had an issue or heard anything like that. We go to them for all our jewelry.

It certainly doesn’t hurt to look around and compare for a bit. But if you don’t find a comparable ring and still find yourself wanting the one from Kay’s then I would just go for it. I know a lot of people who have had a good experiance with them.
We bought my ring from a local jeweler but in part because they had the ring I fell in love with from the first time I saw it. I did look around elsewhere just to be sure, but I kept coming back to MY ring.

I personally would look for a master IJO jeweler instead of purchasing from a chain/mall jewelry store.

Beautyandthebusiness: I know a few people who have rings from Kays (diamonds though) and they haven’t had any problems.

I have a couple pieces of jewelry from Kay’s and I have never had an issue. Don’t let the chain thing scare you off. I have had nothing but good experiences. personally, I would shop around but not because Kay’s is bad, more so that you can be sure that’s what you want, and to see if you run into anything else that tops it.

Beautyandthebusiness: My now FI got me a promise ring from Kays a few years ago. I had to get it re sized 4 times because the ring itself kept coming apart where they welded it together and I had to get the stone tightened twice. Needless to say my FI got my engagement ring from Zales and (knocks on wood) no problems.

I have looked at gemvara(online) mostly because I love the selection of color stones. I’ve looked at zales and weren’t impressed with their rings. I went to a local jeweler and they didn’t have any tanzanite halo rings. I do have a bracelet and a necklace from Kay’s and never had a problem with it. I’m still really undecided what to do because it’s an outlet Kay’s and I can’t find my ring on either online sites. I don’t know if we should get it now before someone else buys it or look at other places. Not a lot of jewelers carry halo tanzanite rings. Any other jewelers suggestions to look at?

I have had an awful experience with Kay’s. I took my ring in for a repair and not only got it back 3 months later( they said 2 weeks)..but the diamond was different. They denied it and then finally admitted they cracked my diamond during the repair. I get accidents happen but you don’t try to pass it off and not be honest. I would go somewhere else.

Beautyandthebusiness: Eh, my fiance got my ring at Kay’s and it is fine. I’ve had them resize it and also weld the solitaire band with the enhancer with no issues.

I personally like Kay’s. I don’t have a ring there but I have a few other jewelry pieces from there. The staff has always been very friendly when I take my pieces on for inspection.

To find a tanzanite with a halo elsewhere you’ll likely have to buy it from somewhere like gemvara OR go the custom route- which could get pretty expensive.
You could go to a mom-n-pop shop type jeweler (read: independent) and ask how much it would be to have something made.
But I don’t see a reason not to buy the Kay ring if you’re really in love with it.

I chipped my tanzanite, so I would take that into consideration for a ring you will wear every day. They are beautiful but not very hard…..

I have a Neil Lane engagement ring and wedding band from kay jewelers. I’m very pleased with the quality!
