@Omgbunnies:  I think it sounds lovely!  Do you think you parents will offer their timeshare or use it for themselves since they will be on vacation too?  Did your FI mention what would be his hesitation?

I would probably have to use my own photographer (opposed to the package) as I’m pretty pick about photos.

@Omgbunnies:  “He’d rather spend a fortune (that we don’t have) and have a big to-do”

I would not be happy with that plan!  Does he think the money will magically show up?  He’s OK wth going into debt for one day (actually 4-6 hours!)?  Or does he think you can afford it with what you already have?

If you have a party at a restaurant you can work it out with restaurant that there is a set menu people can order from or more like a buffet of food you’ve chosen for people to eat from. Key West is one of my favorite places in the whole workd, and I agree with PP that you should hire your own photographer since the photos could be stunning and you don’t want to be stuck with something generic and of poorer quality.

@Omgbunnies:  glad he’s starting to see the money savings!

I was married before but it was very uneventful – like gong to the courthouse and then back to work.  Nothing fancy, no rings, no dress, no special meal, nothing.

WHen I was engaged this time around, I wanted to do the wedding.  I felt like I should!  I had tons of bookmarks, ideas, photos saved…  So I did plan it, pay for it, and in the end we cancelled it (due to my father’s terminal illness) (thankfully got our money back).  I don’t think I was really meant for a big wedding anyway.  I love all the money we saved and our plan B was so awesome; it was the best option in hindsight.

What an awesome idea!  There are so many quirky areas and locations to wander around Old Town and take pictures at, I would totally spring for the professional photographer.

Awesome idea. I wanted to do something like this but my fiance didn’t want to. After a lot of planning and a family only reception (we still have our “real” reception to come), he wishes we would have done that!
