I am planning a honeymoon in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and going to book a place through the site www.vrbo.com. We've rented a condo from the site on vacation before, and have had nothing but good experiences. Hope you can find something you're looking for on there :)
Have you thought about Marathon? It is one of the islands between Islamorada and Key West. I don't fish, but I see a lot of boats that leave out of Marathon. And since it is a "middle" key, things tend to be a bit cheaper. And Bahia Honda State park is just south of the 7-mile bridge and has a pretty beach. How much did you want to spend on a hotel? While it does not have "Keys Charm," I have been staying at the Holiday Inn Express on Marathon every time I go down there - it is super clean, pretty cheap, and they give you a hot breakfast in the morning. The nice thing about Marathon is that it is ~50 miles from Key West - so you can go down there for a day trip if you want the Key West experience without the crazy hotel prices.

@Rock Hugger: We love Holiday Inn Express! We always try to find one when we go somewhere because they are so clean (FI loves the free breakfast.... I love it too but FI LOVES it haha) We're definitely not opposed to staying some place more expensive (we'd actually looked at the Sheraton and Westin hotels while we were scouting online for Key West) but if they have a HI Express on Marathon that'd definitely be a nice, clean, and much less expensive option! Thanks so much for your suggestions!!

Hey lovely ladies! So FI and I are trying to narrow down where we want to go on our honeymoon. We've literally considered practically every place on the planet. We've gone back and forth about leaving the country or doing something in the US and we've decided that we're probably going to do something in the US and use some of that money we'd spend on the honeymoon on our house. One big deciding factor is that we know we want to go deep sea fishing (bottom fishing, not trolling). We love to go every year when we go on vacation and we knew we definitley wanted to do it on our honeymoon as well. We've thought about cruises but most of the deep sea fishing we found with the cruises were trolling trips and like I said we don't want to do that. I definitely want some beach time (and from what I've heard beaches on Key West are limited.) We've had quite a few people suggest Key West or Islamorada (and it's actually a location that we are both semi-agreeing on). Right now the plan is to drive and have a mini-road trip so we would be able to travel around to both places as well if we wanted.
So I guess what I'm asking is for those of you that have been before to either place, would you recommend it? What are some hotels/B&B's you would recommend (mid-price level.... of course no hovels haha but not something that's going to cost us $500/night either) Have-to places to visit? If you've ever been deep sea fishing there, the company you used? Thanks so much ladies!! I look forward to reading your responses!!
