So my boyfriend of a year and a half keeps asking me to marry him (I keep telling him we can’t get engaged until he’s legally divorced, even though they’ve been separated for 3 yrs), and I’ve been doing some thinking of what kind of wedding I wanted. I’ve been looking at wedding dresses, veils, headpieces, the whole shebang to get a taste of what I would want.
I fell in love with a dress from David’s Bridal, and saw a bee’s post that had a beautiful headpiece so I’ve been thinking about one of those as well, with a veil.
Then I found out that the dress I love looks like Kim K’s wedding dress. Like, EXACTLY like it. Right down to the basque waist, tulle skirt, and it’s even made by Vera Wang as well. AND she did a headpiece/veil thing. I’m so disappointed! Honestly, I’ve kind of always thought she was a bit tacky, but moreover I was really hoping to be unique. And of course, I don’t want anyone to accuse me of copying her. I even have the same coloring as her (I look Latina. 🙁 ).
What do i do? Do I keep what I love even though she did it as well? Or do I try to change it for something more original?

@cooperhook: umm, yeah! Who cares if she was similar? Nobody is going to compare the two unless you bring it up or are a huge fan. Not much is unique anymore and the most original part of your wedding will be the love you two share. Do what makes you happy and heck, your taste might change so I wouldn’t get too caught up 🙂
*sorry if I am snarky, that kind of night!

@Payless: Boy, if that’s your snarky, I’d be afraid to show you mine. . . lol. I appreciate your opinion! “Not much is unique anymore” too true. Valid point!

The reason the dress you like looks so much like Kim’s is because Vera Wang designed it that way. It as an affordable version of Kim’s dress. There was another one she made for David’s bridal that was based on Kim’s other wedding dress.
There isn’t much a bride can do to have a unique wedding, other than be herself, of course. Get the wedding dress and accessories that you like. If you look similar to Kim, oh well. Some people may notice, but it won’t really matter if they do.

Just do what you love, and wear what you want! No one is going to think of Kim Kardashian, because you aren’t Kim Kardashian. They’ll just think about how beautiful you are. While it’s fun to try to think of unique ideas, don’t get too hung up on the concept of doing something no one has ever done before. It’s highly possible that you’ll see three other bees on here wearing the same dress as you, or the same veil, or who’ve made the same centerpieces, etc… There are a lot of us! The best thing you can do is just enjoy your planning process and not worry too much about what others think.

@cooperhook: Not to be harsh but you’re wearing a mass produced dress, which means you’re going to be looking pretty similar to a lot of other brides. Unless your wedding is an empty sham that amounts to little more than a special episode for your family’s reality tv show I don’t think you need to worry about people comparing you to Kim K.
Unless you’re prepared to get a custom gown then your wedding dress won’t really be original, and even then your dress will probably still be similar to another dress. It really sucks to realise that, but it’s the truth.
And all of that aside, nobody will care if you look similar to Kim Kardashian. If anybody is comparing your wedding look to hers then I’m sure they’ll be thinking about how great you both look. I mean Kim Kardashian a tacky person, but she is beautiful and she did look great on her wedding day.
