I am not technologically savvy at all! I am flying for the first time with my 22 month old daughter on Friday. I am borrowing my mom’s kindle to travel with. She is a prime member, so there are a lot of free instant streaming videos that my daughter can watch. How do these work? Do I need to be connected to the internet for them to be able to load? Should I just download some videos and games ahead of time, so I know they will be there?
Any suggestions or feedback would be appreciated!

If it’s streaming, you will need to be connected to the internet. There is internet on most planes now, but it’s ridiculously expensive. Just download what you can before you go so you know it’ll be there! You can probably hook into free wifi at the airport to stream videos before the flight to keep her entertained there!

@Lolasmomma: Yeah, I would just download some movies and games ahead of time. Streaming relies on internet, which is expensive on planes, if even offered at all.

Just don’t leave the Kindle on the plane! I did that a month ago. =(

Don’t have a Kindle… have an IPad
Mr TTR likes to play games on the IPad when we fly… it keeps him occupied as he is a poor flyer
We download them off of Apple Apps before we go.
I also download a magazine or two for myself… in case I find myself somewhere in transit bored (ie sitting at the Airport Gate waiting for our flight to be called)
Hope this helps,

You can find out if the content you have on the Kindle is available offline or if you need an internet connection by turning off the wifi on the Kindle, and trying to view the content offline. If you need it for some things, just make sure you have other things you can have access to while onboard, or as other PPs have said, be prepared to pay through the nose for internet connection. Something else to bear in mind while flying is that you can;t use any electronic equipment during take off and landing, even if they’re on airplane mode. So make sure you bring some old-school entertainment for your daughter. And something for her to suck on (like a cloth or dodie) during take off and landing, as her ears will hurt…

Amazon has a bunch of movies and TV shows and cartoons you can download for free. The WiFi on planes isn’t great for streaming anyways, its slow from my experience.

@sweetaure: lol I googled dodie and marijuana is what came up.
I’ve never been on a flight with internet!

@AB Bride: ahahah not what I meant! Although it might help OP relax on her first flight! Not that I would ever advise anyone to smoke anything while caring for a baby… I meant the plastic thing babies suck on, not sure what they’re called in the US, or how they’re spelled in the UK! But I digress…
