I heard some people complaining about it yesterday! I bet it has more to do with the word kinky than anything else!

@Bebealways:  From what I understand, people unfamiliar with the musical were horrified while people familiar with the musical loved it.

I probably wouldn’t appreciate my baby watching ANYONE in thigh-highs dancing around!

But saying “How will I explain this to my kids” is a cop-out. All they need is “It’s a silly show about boys who make really tall boots!”

    Kids are pretty resilient!

I thought it was weird (and I love Broadway!), and I don’t have a desire to see the show, but the thought didn’t even cross my mind that it would offend people. Yikes.

I’m not sure how it’s not family friendly.

@Bebealways:  Haha, I was a Sailor Moon fanatic growing up! And I dressed like a hooker as a teen. So I’m still in that first-time-Mom bubble where I’m CONVINCED if I just limit exposure on naughty clothing, maybe she won’t dress like a hussy like I did! Maybe? PLEASE?!

I’m always really disappointed when people say “How will I explain that to my kids?”. I would have hoped that they would used an honest explaination worded in a way tailored for the age of the child. What an excellent opportunity teach them about exceptence of people different from themselves. My personal opinion is that the more you hide stuff from them the more curious about it or afraid of it they will be.

When I think of Thanksgiving and family and the history behind the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, cross dressing does not immediately come to my mind. Sorry. I don’t necessarily think any kids seeing it were thinking anything of it, nor was I furious, but it was definitely out of place. I am the sole “out of line” vote so far.

It’s not my job to explain drag queens to anyone’s kids, so I loved it! Love drag queens too!

I loved it! And, surprisingly, so did my socially conservative mother. She thought the show looked like fun and immediately wanted to see the film it’s based on. I think OP is right. If families are going to scream about men wearing thigh-high boots, then they’d better also be wetting their pants over the Rockettes who wear NO pants and kick their legs above waist level directly at the camera. We’re, as far as I can tell, only a few milimeters away from seeing snatch with those ladies. For the record, I like them as well, but I see nothing wrong with the “Kinky Boots” number.

@MsW-to-MrsM:  People who cross-dress are someone’s family, right?

@AB Bride:  Do they all wear kinky boots to the Thanksgiving dinner table? You can also say that about any person in the world. They are all someone’s family.

I can defintiely see why people are upset about this. I don’t think it was totally out of line, but I certainly don’t thik it was the best of ideas either. Personally I wouldn’t want to be stuck trying to explain that to kids.
