- Wedding: June 2014
I’ve read a couple Weddingbee posts about various Kirk Kara ring problems, but I wanted to see if anyone else has had the same problems I’ve had. Thank GOD for my local jeweler, they’ve been amazing!! Here are the details….My fiance and I looked at rings, I fell in love with the Kirk Kara Angelique collection. My fiance ordered the ring and asked them to include his grandmother’s oval diamond. Much to my surprise, my fiance ordered it without my knowledge and proposed in June 2012…proposal and ring were wonderful…then came ALL of the issues.
First, after all of the excitement I sat down and really looked at the ring, it was an oval shape, not round. My fiance and I and my coworkers had specific conversations about how it was shaped, but I thought that due to my petite nature they may have had to design it that way to fit. After a couple weeks, the back of the ring noticeably tarnished. I took it in. Then a couple of the side diamonds fell out…I again took it in. Another side diamond fell out…I took it in. I know…losing count but again a side diamond fell out…so I took it in. On yet another occasion, I sat in a client consultation and realized that the main diamond (a family heirloom) was very loose…I again took it in. The jeweler decided to send it to Kirk to look at it…I believe the prongs were redone to support the weight of the oval diamond. After a month or two, I noticed that the intricate details (when viewing the ring from the side) were cracked….again took it in.
A couple months went by and while sitting at a stop light I noticed that again 2 side diamonds were missing and the crack that was there before was there again….I took it in. It was sent again to Kirk Kara and now they are telling me that the ring has been severely damaged and that you can tell this by the oval nature of the ring (yes, it has been that way since day one!) There were more notes that were listed about the ring that I stopped listening to because I was so upset. To be clear, I literally wear this ring during the day and that is it!!! I am an attorney and only use my hands to type and write (and even then…I’m right handed!!!). When I get home, I take it off. I don’t wear it on the weekends unless we are at an event. I don’t sleep in the ring, I don’t shower in the ring…NOTHING. I just don’t understand….isn’t this ring supposed to be the one that I wear the rest of my life, not just occasionally because I am too afraid that something is going to break or fall out of the darn thing!?!?! OH and may I add that my fiance was supposed to receive the ring in April, but something happened and they had to remake it…so he didn’t receive it until June!
Again, I’m beyond frustrated and disappointed. I literally cried on the phone with the vice president of the jewelry store (And believe me, I am NOT the crying type). It really shouldn’t be this way especially for the amount of money he spent on this ring.
Anyone else have these or similar issues…or does this kind of stuff only happen to me?
