I LOVE that idea!!! I'm from the South and loooove grits too :) I think it's a unique and very personal favor! (way better than jordan almonds!)
I'm a northern girl through and through, but this idea sounds fantastic! I developed a deep and abiding love for grits (with butter please) and Waffle Houses on many travels to the south. I have a New Orleans wedding to attend in spring and i'm definitely hoping she'll do something fitting for the location!
I think the idea is great! You may want to include one of your favorite recipies with the grits so that people who haven't cooked with them before know what to do with them. If your caterer will give you a copy of the recipe they served, that would be a great way to remember the wedding!
This idea is adorable. And sooo personalized to you. :)
I love it! We're having a grits bar at our reception, so you KNOW i love it!
This would be so great! I hope it works out for you... Everyone is going to think it's so cool.
Holy cow this is one of my favorite dishes! Southern shrimp n grits! MMMMMMM! I love grits, love BEING a grit (Girls Raised In The South) and this is a fantastic idea!
How about seeing if the venue can give you their recipe for the shrimp and grits and do as Ms. Peachy suggested and put it on the bags? That way they'd have a lasting memory of your day.
Thanks for the great ideas everyone! I know the restaurant has a cookbook out with the famous shrimp and grits recipe in it so I will definitely put it on the bags. Yum!
um, that's not only a great idea, it could possibly be the best favor idea EVER! i would love to get this as a wedding favor... food always goes over well as a favor but this has such a special twist to that idea.. your guests will be thinking of what a great time they had at your wedding when they are cooking up some delicious grits!
I think that's an awesome favor idea! I still dream about the shrimp and grits I had on vacation in South Carolina a couple of years back! Yum!!
Um, that would be the best wedding favor EVER! Mmmmm grits...with cheese please :)
DO IT!!!! LOL every sunday morning my sweetie makes me eggs , grits and toast!! LOL YUM!
I think it's a WONDERFUL idea!! What's more southern than grits?! No to mention, this is a favor your guests will use and enjoy! Go for it!
Martha Stewart has featured this idea a couple of times and I just love it!

she even gives a how-to on how to make a label here:
Do it!!! This is seriously one of the cutest wedding favor ideas! ![]()
@V: Don't worry, a lot of people don't know what grits are since it seems like more of a "regional/cultural" specialty. I grew up on grits because my mother did and her mother before her. It's just coarsely ground corn. Here's a wiki explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grits. You should try it sometime--when cooked right--it's delicious!
I've never had grits, but I think the favor idea is AWESOME! It's creative, different and personal. Plus it's edible so it's EXTRA great! I'd definitely try grits if it was a choice though! :D
Thanks everyone! I love how Martha shows them wrapped in brown paper with a monogrammed stamp. I grew up in SC and most of my friends love grits but my relatives are all from NJ so they might be in for a new treat.

Ok Ladies I need some honest opinions here. I have been searching high and low for the perfect favors to give our wedding guests. We are having an intimate ceremony and reception with around 60 guests and we are going for a modern yet southern kind of theme. We are having a tapas style menu and one of the featured dishes will be Southern Style Shrimp and Grits. The restaurant catering the event uses these fantastic grits made right in my home state and they are used by chefs all over the country. So I thought perfect, I'll have small bags of these gourmet grits for all of our guests to take home with them! After all I was raised in the south and I love me some good grits. Is this idea weird? Would you think that was a strange thing to receive as a favor at a wedding you attended?
