i’m trying to figure out how to organize a particular corner in our new(ish) kitchen and i *know* the solution is out there, i just don’t know what it is called so i can’t seem to find it!
basically, the area is a square of countertop, about 1.5 feet * 1.5 feet, on the short part of an “L” corner of the countertop. there is an upper cabinet above the short part of the L with a backsplash behind it (picture attached). what i’d like to do is organize our home binders, mailing materials, one or two small baskets, as well as the wireless modem (which has to stay in that general area because that is the only operating phone line). oh, and ideally, some room for charging our phones. my ideal would be to find some sort of shelf that i can mount under the upper cabinet and store the modem there, which would free up a lot of space. i could also attach a power strip to that shelf and get that out of the way. BUT – what are these types of shelves called?? the closest i can seem to find is a pull-down cook book holder (like this http://store.cookbookpeople.com/PhotoDetails.asp?ShowDESC=N&ProductCode=CS-ACRYL-UNCAB) but i’m not sure it will do the trick.

Can you stand the router up with the cords facing to the back?
I like this blogger’s ideas for a mail center: http://abowlfulloflemons.blogspot.com/2011/01/day-17-getting-organized-challenge-mail.html.

You could go to Ikea and buy a couple of pieces of their white kitchen cabinet shelving and make yourself an open box, then screw it to the bottom of the upper cabinet. This is a microwave cabinet but you get the idea.

I totally know what you are talking about as I thought of the same type of shelf when I saw your photo. I don’t know what it is called but I would search under cabinent shelving and specifically look for ones that are intended to hold a radio or CD player as that is how I have seen them before. Apternatively, you could probable just get some brackets and a couple of thin wooden boards, paint them all white and screw it in with room for the wires out the back. As far as phone charging, I just saw this awesome way to make a chargeing station out of a vintage suitcase http://www.designsponge.com/2012/02/diy-project-vintage-suitcase-charging-station.html if that is not your thing, you couls apply the same concept to any sort of box and have a nice way to keep it on your counter without having a bunch of wires.
