Long story short(er), we have a ~9-year-old cat with blindness due to hypertension. About 4 months ago, she had what we think was her first seizure. We weren’t home when it happened, but we took her to the emergency clinic right away and she required fluids and medication to get back to her usual self. We’re still not 100% sure it was a seizure, but she’s had 4 or 5 more that we know of (witnessed) since then. The recovery time for these has been much quicker and no meds/vet visits were needed. So it’s possible she’s had more during the night or when we’re not home. She had another seizure yesterday, which has led me to write this post…
My concern is whether these medical issues are making her miserable. I obviously would never want to put her down, but I also don’t want her to lead a terrible life for our benefit. She’s never been a particularly playful cat and she spends most of the time (before blindness and seizures, too) sleeping in another room. That is to say, it’s hard to tell if she’s happy. My husband doesn’t feel comfortable putting her on more medications for the seizures since she already takes some for her heart. Anyone have any experience and/or advice?
