So its been a month from yesterday and im finally writing my birth story up.
On the 24th of march I was 34 weeks 2 days pregnant. I had seen my midwife at lunchtime as i had had a tiny amount of spotting and backache/period pains over the weekend, she checked me out and said nothing was wrong and to just take it easy. So ithen went to viest my mum and hung out with her for the afternoon and got back home at 4:30pm. I had just sat down on the couch to write an email when i heard a loud pop, then some water started leaking out which i thought was pee, until i tried to stand up and it litraly gushed out of me and everytime i tried to move more would come out, so I whipped off my pants and rushed down the hallway and i rung my midwife. She said she would met me at the hospital at 6pm, it was 5pm when my waters broke. I rung my husband and mum and the both rushed to me. I went to the toliet to put on a pad and more water gushed out and i slipped off the toliet! Haha
By the time my mum and husband got home I was have mild contractions, so we all rushed around throwing a hospitalbag together as we had planned to have a home birth. 30 mins later my contractions were 3mins apart and my mum yelled at my husband to get me in the car NOW! The trip to the hospital was horriable! And it was only a 10min car ride. We gotthere and I had 4 contractions on the way to the maternity ward. It was 5:40pm when we got there and as soon as they saw me they took me straight to a birthing room. My midwife arrived 5mins later and my contractions were 2mins apart lasting for 60-90seconds. My midwife decided to give me a quick scan to see if bubs was in the right postion. But the scan machine was brocken, so off we had to go to the obstrition office to use his machine, we met him there. I had 4 contrations on top of each other onthe way. Best thing i found to do was move my hips from side to side, it helped so uch and to remain standing. The doc did a quick scan and we saw bubs was breech, because we live in a small town, there was no one there who was quilified enough to deliever a breech baby, so the doc started making phone calls for a emergancy csection. Then he sajd o the phone hurry up get ready or we will lose them both, my poor husband lost it then, my mum and midwife had to calm him down and my midwife said the doc was always like this, he liked to create drama. Then the doc stopped talking onthe phone and turn to my husband and me and yelled dont cry! Dont be stupid! Then he came towards me and did an internal without any worning at all, I was already 8cm. They made me walk to another bed with the doc yelling at me to hurry and keep my legs together as he dosnt want the baby to fall out! They got my husband and i into theata and they started taking blood and puting in an iv etc, and then i start feeling him come out! I said to my midwife, Hes coming out! So the doc lifted my leg up , by that tjme i was 10cm and said yes there is a foot outside the vagina! Haha
They gave me a spinal real quick, luckly so my husband could stay with me, and at 7:14pm after a two hour labour, our adorable premature baby boy Cooper Clifford was born, weighting 5pounds 11ounce, after 5mins his apgar scale was 9 and after 10mins it was a 10. They pulled the curtain down so we could see him being born and he screamed and peeded on the doctor! They checked him over and mynhusband got to cut the cord, as soon as my husband started talking tonhim he stopped cry andnturned his head to his voice, they bought him over to me and let me hold him while the stitched me back up. They wheeled us into recovery and my mum got to met him and find out his name. Then we called our sublings and inlaws, then they wheeled us to the childrens ward so he could be montoired. They had to insert a feeding tube because he didnt have a sucking reflex as he was six weeks early. Then they let me haveskin to skin with him for 3hrs and the montoired him on me. My inlaws came to met him, then after they left, a nurse hand expressed a tiny amount of colostom from me for him.
He had to stay and be montoired over night and i had to be in the maternity unit, that was the longest night of my life, i was so excited but in shock haha, jt all happened so fast. The midwifes had to take my vitals every hour so i was gettjng them to check on him every hour so by 4:30am i asked if i could see him cause i couldnt wait any more! So he was bought round for a couple of hrs. When he was taken back, my husband and a midwife helped me get up and have a shower. It was the most painful thing! But ince i was up and moving it was alot better. Cooper was bought back round again and the pediatrtion came to met us and said he had never seen a 34weeker who had such goodlungs, he didnt need any oxgen when he was born, he only needed his feedi g tube in. Then they had a lactiotion consultet come help me breastfeed him forthe first time and he feed for five mins. Then they showed me how to pump.
The next day they sent me and cooper round to the childrens ward, I was really lucky to be able to room in with him as our hosptial is one of the only ones in the country that do that. So i would breastfeed him every 3hrthen they would tube feed him fomula and i would pump for the next feed and they would put my expressed milk in his feeding tube before topping him up with fomula. He was weight every 2 days. We were i there for 2 weeks. They had a big issue with me doing all his care with out help. Im a qulified nanny so i knew what tk do but i still had interfering nurses hovering over me trying to tell me i cant look after my own baby. I got a big telling of from a nurse because i wasnusing cloth nappies and she told me cloth nappies are bad for premmies and i was being a bad mum using them. I told her thats her opion but not mine and i would appriate if she kept that to herself as the pedatrtion was fine with me using them. After the first week he was no longer on fomula and they were just feeding him my expressed milk through his tube, the following sunday he had such good feeds we didnt use his tube for 24 hrs and the nxt day the pedatrition sent us home!
It so great to be home, and fallen asleep next to my husband and have all coopers own stuff around him. It is difficult, but so worth it. Copper is now a month old and weights 7pound 5ounces. He is not even due yet. My due date was 3rd may. Cooperis breasting like a champ and is so adorable, he is just begingin to grow out of his prem sized clothing. So that my birth dramatic birth story, sorry if there is any spelling mistake, im feeding and writing this one handed
