this might not sound the best but hear me out..... how about registering for individual knives then after the wedding you can return them all in one hit and upgrade to an entire set
reason being registering for an entire set can be very expensive for one person
edit: oh and i received a (well we but i do all the cooking so its i ) mundail set of knives as a gift and loving them
We registered for the Shun knives at Crate and Barrel. Ultimately, you have to hold the knives and figure out what feels best in your own hand to decide.
I was superstitious, though, so I didn't really want to register for knives (bad luck in certain cultures), but Mr. DG really wanted to, so I didn't spoil his fun.
I got a set for my birthday (JA Henkels) a few years ago that I love. Nothing too pricey from what I can tell but they do the job.
@Mrs.DG- at my FSIL's wedding an aunt gave her a knife set and requested that FSIL give her a penny back which would take away the superstition of severing the relationship. Never heard of it before, but it sounded like a good idea :)
Maybe I can include a penny in the thank you card! Thanks lemondrop!
I second Mrs. DG, that you do have to hold the knife in your hand to see what you like best. For me (I cook a lot,) I have found that an entire knife set is unecessary. I really only need a big chef's knife, a small paring knife, and then kitchen shears. I love the Global brand personally. A good knife is lifechaning in the kitchen!
pp's are definitely right. go back and hold the knives in your hands and talk to the people in the store. hopefully they can help find the right ones for you. we registered for the wustof ikon and really like it. we aren't doing a whole set though like snappy said-just get ones you'll use! :)

Hi Hive!
We registered at Crate and Barrel today and had a great time. We went to one of the registery event parties and it was TOTALLy the way to go. Free mimosas, waffles, omlets, really helpful staff- plus they close the store to the general public.
We were really itmiated by the Knives. We cook a good amount and would like a decent set that we will have for a while but don't want to register for a super expensive set. Any suggestions on brands/stores???
thanks!
