Are any of you members of a local chapter of the Junior League? I’m interested in hearing more about experiences people have had with this organization. I am looking for a volunteer organization to join, but don’t know much about Junior League specifically.

My sister is in the Junior League in her area and she really enjoys it. She has met a lot of great girlfriends and has helped with several events they put on. She also volunteers at a home for troubled kids. For her it’s been a great experience. I havne’t joined my chapter because I’m not sure I can really afford the dues, which aren’t exactly cheap.

I wanted to join my chapter but just never got around to it. I am a teacher and the fall is a busy time and thats when our league takes new members. But, my friend in Portland has been a member for a few years and loves it. I would def go for it.

I really hope to join Junior League once I move to Austin. I know several women, ranging from 25-55 who are/have been members and they have all loved it. I love the idea of meeting women from my area (especially because I will be NEW to the area) and working together for philanthropic causes.

I’m planning on joining the next recruitment “cycle”; right now, wedding planning is keeping me busy. I’ve heard that it’s a great place to meet like-minded women who want to participate in community service, network, socialize. Go for it!

Thank you for the input, ladies. Like desert_teacher, I am also a teacher and I kind of feel like I already do a lot of serving the community in that capacity 😉 But I do want to get out and volunteer more. I was just a little hesitant because of the $200 annual dues and the whole application process (getting recommendations, being put on probation for a year) and it made me a little wary of what I was getting into. I think I’ll go to the informational meeting based on the recommendations above.
