Korean Wedding Ceremony HELP in Michigan

posted 6 months ago in Detroit

Anyone know of any Korean communities in Michigan? Or anybody that rents Korean costumes? I am from the NY area and fiance is from SE Michigan.

I need help! I would love to incorporate my culture into the wedding. I've grown up seeing the Korean Paebaek ceremonies in cousin's weddings and really want to have one for me! I think it'd be a treat for fiance's family and our friends, too! My parents are excited that I'm even thinking about it!

This is really special to me and I really need help!!

 Thanks!

Troy, MI has a large Korean community.  I don't know if there's a place to rent Korean clothes though.

Can you rent them from NYC and bring it with you to Michigan? I know it would be an extra load when you fly there, but maybe another family member could bring it over for you so don't have to worry about transportation.

Being from Troy, I can confirm that there is indeed a large Korean community. If you want, I can contact a few of my Korean friends from the area and see if they can find out info about paebaek rentals and the such! Just let me know!

Fadedblue! That would be wonderful! I really appreciate your kind offer!!

I also found the Korean American Cultural Center of Michigan (ww.kaccm.org) in Southfield. I am going to try to call them from work tomorrow...wish me luck!!

Woohoo! Thanks, FadedBlue!

UPDATE - Found help in Ann Arbor!  The Korean American Cultural Center of Michigan offered a number to Arirang Hanbok in Ann Arbor.  I was able to meet with Mrs. Lee of Arirang Hanbok over the holiday weekend. She offers all types of Korean ceremony rentals. She has everything set up in her basement - the ceremonial table, the gifts, the costumes. It is all really well presented. We're renting the hanboks from her. She and her husband will come to the wedding site and set up the ceremonial table and emcee the whole ceremony. Also, Mrs. Lee works with the photographer to let them know where and what to shoot.  I still have to send in my funds to book the date. It is a fraction of the cost of any of the same services found in NY. She is a delight to work with and makes the whole process easy! Thank goodness! We're feeling good!
