There are lots of people that turn their nose up at Davids Bridal but they definitely saved me from a horrible experience of finding a dress.
I did the dreaded dress shopping yesterday. The first place we went to was a very big dress shop. They have a big size range so I thought it would be a good place to start. Long story short, I tried to get a few on and they didn’t fit AT ALL! Of course they only have one big dressing room with NO privacy so that made it all that much more humiliating. Then the woman told me that they didn’t have a single dress in the store that would fit me!! Mind you, I am a 22/24 street size so I don’t think Im am unreasonably HUGE! Needless to say, I ended up in tears and felt like crap about myself. I felt rather pathetic being 41 years old and crying!! I assure you that you never outgrow the pain around being overweight. My sweet sister did everything she could to help, even tried on some dresses for me but it was hopeless.
I was ready to quit and wear jeans to the wedding but my Mom and Sister insisted that we go to David’s Bridal and at least look around. Needless to say, they were very nice and accommodating and assured me that they had dresses to fit me. Their dresses are TRUE TO SIZE!!! I fit into every size 22 I tried on!!! I didn’t find THE dress last night but I did find one on their website that I think will be good. I don’t think I am going to find a dress that blows me away, honestly I don’t even love the idea of wearing a dress. But this is what I think I will go with and add flutter sleeves since I don’t want to go strapless.
I really don’t understand why dress manufacturers don’t size things the same as street clothes. All it does is make all brides, regardless of size feel lousy about themselves.

@Mahinani: Glad to hear you had a good experience with them. =) What a beautiful dress.

That’s a really pretty dress! I can’t believe I hadn’t noticed it before on their website. There’s a similar chiffon dress without the beading that I tried on that looked great on me–I like this better!

I hear such horrible things about DB all the time, but honestly, everytime I’ve been (which has been 3, twice for me and once for my bridesmaids and jr bridesmaids) they have been nothing but fantastic.

@Mahinani: Great choice on the dress! I hope it looks amazing on you!
I got my dress from DB and I also dreaded dress shopping because I was conscious about my weight, especially with my mom there. My consultant was awesome and she helped me pick out THE dress! It was around 4 sizes bigger than my street size, but she said that these dresses fit smaller than street size.
I’m glad you had an awesome experience! I can’t even imagine shopping in a store with one big dressing room. I wouldn’t even try on any dress and just leave, so you are very brave for going through with it!

Such a pretty dress!
I have a DB dress, but it wasn’t true to size. I had to go up 2 sizes. But it really depends on which dress. I did fit into some dresses that were only 1 size up.

I hate how people are always bashing DB- I know that some stores are better than others with it being a chain, but I’ve always had really pleasant experiences (aside from one particular consultant, who no longer works there).
My dress was a little bigger than my street size; I bought a 12 when I am normally a 10. But that one was a Galina so maybe that has something to do with it?
Anyway, I’m glad you had such a good experience! I always reccommend them to brides who are anything but a size 8-12 because they have samples in every size!

That is truly a gorgeous dress! I actually tried it on, but it wasn’t the style I was looking for. I did end up with a DB dress and it was a size 18 and I am street size 18/20! I love that I didn’t have to go up any sizes; that would have made me SUPER self-conscience.
