Saw a Kunzite ring at a place that sells vintage jewelery and I have honestly never heard of it before. Hardness wise might be too soft for an everyday ring but from what I am seeing on google looks like an awesome pink/purple colored stone. Anyone heard of it or have anything with it?

a_day_at_the_fair: AHHH yes I love Kunzite! I saw a Kunzite piece in Tiffany’s that was absolutely gorgeous — it was set in rose gold and surrounded by pave diamonds. The piece I saw looked more pink — closer to your second picture than to the first. When I talked to our jeweler there, she did mention it being a softer stone!

crackktheskyy: When reading about it it said that the color ranges from colorless to pink to lilac. There were a few I saw in my search where it was kind of inbetween pink and purple. Its very neat!

It is a softer stone, but so is mine (garnet). If you want it it can hold up if you take some precautions. Take is off when you shower, do the dishes, while you’re sleeping and during anything where your hands can get banged up. Have it set in a lower setting with either a bezel or a halo to protect the center stone.
If you want a harder stone that has a similar color look into a purple sapphire. They can come in very similar shades of purple and are a much tougher stone.

It is very pretty, I looked at this as a possibility for my stone before settling on a sapphire for its colour range + hardness
It is a similar hardness as quartz so you could with the right cut/setting get away with it if you are careful but it is 1/16th the hardness of a diamond and 1/4th the hardness of sapphire.

I know what it is thanks to Sailor Moon having a bunch of characters named after gemstones. It’s very pretty.

I have a beautiful 5ct kunzite. It’s a soft rose pink. When I bought the stone, I was told by the jeweller that it woudn’t stand up to daily use in a ring, and would be better off in a pendant. Or else just a cocktail ring that only gets worn occasionally. So I haven’t had it set yet because I so want to have it in a ring I can wear a lot, and am still trying to come up with a way to protect it. I am thinking i need a bezel set?

Jabberwocky: Sailor Moon! I haven’t thought about that anime in years – I loved it I don’t personally have one, but I agree – Kunzite is very pretty. I really like the more purple color.
