I think that Ingrid Joy with Ingrid Joy Studio is great. You should google her website. We almost went with her because she was in our price range (under $3000) but she was just too far from San Diego. She is definitely talented and I would DEFINITELY recommend her.
Here's Ingrid's link to her blog. Her site doesn't seem to be working right now.
We just had our engagement session with them this past weekend and we had a lot of fun! :)

Phoebe Joy starts at $1000
Giselle Macfarland is awesome!!! Her assistants are great too!
hazelnutphotography.com, i think packages start at $1800ish?
Jennifer Roper photographed my friend's wedding a couple weeks ago and I believe she did it for 2k total, all day and unlimited locations. I'm not sure what other details were involved though ...
Amy at Elmwood Court Photography. She's just starting out but we <3 her. She does charge a travel fee of $50 outside of the IE, but her fees are so much under your budget that it shouldn't be a problem.
Here is my phatty list of people in all different ranges.

@ebm: that is an awesome list!
Our photographer has many packages in the 3k price range. And he is usually willing to willing to work with yuo on yourbudget. You can omit some things from the package to make it less, you know. AND...he is good as well! Check out his site: http://www.chocolate-photography.com/
He has a very artistic eye and he's a pleasure to work with. :)
ebm, you totally just blew my mind! thanks for all that work!

I'm helping a friend plan her wedding from afar, and because she is doing it in such a short time frame on a budget, most of the vendors I'm recommending are already booked.
Do you have any suggestions for awesome photogs that are under $3k?
