I've never been there, but everything in Carmel is so beautiful everytime I go there! Would it be possible to e-mail someone at the hotel and ask if they have any additional photos or ask if someone could just snap a few for you really quickly, you know the non-professional kind so you can get a better idea of what it looks like.
Never been, but as Lillindy said, everything in Carmel is absolutely beautiful! If it fits into your budget, hiring a local planner (not affiliated with the venue) is highly suggested.
my best friend is getting married there Memorial weekend 2010. She absolutly loves that place and it was her first pick!
you can find her on here ( Miss_Carmel) or check out her blog:
I would strongly recommend visiting the venue whenever possible. Or send someone you trust.
Regardless of your budget, you could do preliminary interviews of wedding planners on the phone, and ask a lot of questions because you'll discover a lot! You would be looking to hire a planner who can also help you with the venue selection. These guys know the general cost to throw a wedding at all the venues in town, since there are only so many. We interviewed Allison Weddings, Amy Byrd Weddings, and Colette Cuccia (who's on last year's La Playa list). Amy Byrd might be better priced. Colette is priced very high but feign some venue confusion and they will offer tons of suggestions.
I visited La Playa and it was not for us, but that doesn't mean anything! We all have different agendas. I thought I took a couple photos, but I don't have them anymore. I will say that you can see the ocean from the Poseidon Room because it is on the second floor and the ocean is downhill from the hotel. While we were there, we saw another couple having a wedding meeting with the catering manager. Look on the local pro photographer's websites and blogs if nothing else.
Also, jazzing up a room is not cheap, so start getting ballpark figures for flowers and Classic Rentals San Francisco.

OK - so I'm trying to plan the whole destination thing from afar, without a coordinator (I must have lost my mind!) - I have a date held at the La Playa Hotel in Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA on the Monterey Peninsula . . . but I would be booking this location site unseen.
Anyone been there and can you reassure me that it's a pretty (not shabby or worn looking) location? I know there are others of you having your wedding/reception there as well. Can anyone give me some additional info? I am looking at a ceremony outside on the patio, and a reception in the Poseidon room. Anyone with pics - please post!!!
I am also concerned about making the Poseidon room look nice - nothing extravagant, but would like to add some personality (based on the "official" photos on the La Playa website)
