@Mrs. Doily:  I’ve been thinking about the music I want to play as I labor and right now everything I’ve come up with is pretty mellow.

On my (so far very short) playlist is:

“First Day of My Life” by Bright Eyes

“The Luckiest” by Ben Folds

“Lullaby” by the Dixie Chicks

“Sweet Sweet Baby” by Michelle Featherstone

“Forever Love (Digame)” by Anna Nalick

“A Thousand Years” by Christina Perry

There’s also a lullaby CD I used to play for my daycare class called “Dreamland: World Lullabies and Soothing Songs” that I want to play during labor and I want to play for our baby after it is born.

Is it bad that the first song that came to my mind was “Salt N Pepa – Push It”? lol

Now for a more serious suggestion: “Brooke Fraser –  Love is Waiting” 🙂

@Mrs. Doily:  I honestly think I’m going to go with more instrumental because any cheesy words are going to distract me and probably make me laugh haha so I will just need some good Enya going or something. I’m thinking of including some Soundtrack music too. Maybe I’ll put on the Lord of the Rings OST hahahaha!

@Mrs.Maeby:  +1 on the lyrics thing. Sort of on the same lines as Enya, but not quite, maybe some stuff by Sigur Ros? Yes, it has lyrics, but they’re in Icelandic, so they shouldn’t be distracting. It’s also very mellow and relaxing.

Maybe I’m in the minority, but when things got “down and dirty” I needed total silence to concentrate.

@Mrs. Doily:  bahaha! Can you imagine being in labour and having that song start playing though? It has the potential to provide some comic relief. 🙂

 @Kimberley25:  I’m kind of like that too actually. I mean, even if I’m driving somewhere unfamiliar I need to turn the radio off in my car so I can concentrate. :S

@As_You_Wish:  LOL.  When I was in early labor, my husband was watching a baseball playoff game (in our birthing suite).  He knew the shiz was going down when I told him to turn that damn thing off!  And, yeah, the whole contractions thing needed my full attention!

I didn’t even know that this was a thing! How cool! Is this normal? Do the docs/nurse at most hospitals hospital expect the moms in labor to have a playlist to put on during labor? Or will they look at me like I’m crazy when I ask them to?

@Kimberley25:  +1

I never got around to making my playlist because I went early at 38w, but when the contractions got going I found that I needed 100% of my concentration to work through them. I didn’t want anyone talking, let alone music playing.
