My dress will be altered from a size 8 to a size 0-2 just fine. I’m also planning on buying a lace reception dress at a sample sale that will likely be a size 8-12 and I’ll need altered to a 0-2. I’ve never heard that rule and the alterations people acted like it made no difference what the size was.

Mine was altered from a size 12 to a size 6. It was also lace w/corset back. It looked & felt totally fine. But man was it expensive to alter!

@xoxovmarie:  My dress went from a floor size 12 to my size of 3. It can be altered 🙂 Lace is super flexible!

OP, my consultant said dresses are easily sized down 4 sizes. So I woudln’t worry and the other posters illustrate that it is very possible.

@xoxovmarie…I am with you. I know it’s possible but I can hardly wait to try on the dress and get it altered. It’s a bit nerve wracking just waiting. But I’m sure they will be just great 🙂

@mrspizanotobe:  It was 350$USD to alter which included a hem, taking it in on the sides, and tightening the beadwork.  Oh, and altering the little lace jacket, and adding cups and straps. My dress had a ton of beading on it, I think that probably contributed to the cost.

They can do it. Mine kept having to be taken in a considerable amount.

I think it is definitely possible but you are going to have to pay a pretty penny for it I’m sure.

@LucyLaLa thank you! I was thinking (from what I’ve read) anywhere from $300-$500. So you confirmed it for me. It’s expensive but cheaper than buying a new dress!

I had mine taken in a significant amount and it cost me $200. Looked beautiful.

I would suggest you have them make it as tight as possible. I found that by the time it was 10pm (1 pm ceremony) the dress seemed to have stretched.

I ordered Maggie Sottero Ophelia 3 sizes bigger because i was pregnant and have a fat ass! Mine is in the process of being taken in and I’ve got a zip up! I’m also losing weight between appointments so it can happen!

@xoxovmarie:  My dress is lace and was altered from a size 12 to a size 4 and STILL some! As long as the bust is fitting then I think it is quite doable 🙂

Bust changes are super expensive!!!
