I watched the Bachelorette last night and was so happy to see Ali's asscher cut engagment ring.  Look at this Neil Lane beauty.

Any other asscher diamonds in the hive?

I'm late to the party, but you can't blame me..i just got engaged 2 weeks ago!  I wanted an asscher from the first time i saw one..and it was a 0.5 ct I colour!  But i knew then and there it was the cut i wanted.  Imagine my surprise when my fiance surprised me with a 1.01 ct E colour!

Here's mine.  It's set in brushed rose gold.  Very basic setting by a local designer that specializes in minimal designs.  I will be stacking it with my wedding band and sparkly anniversary bands to come...lol

What does an asscher cut mean? I tried looking it up online with no avail.

@sonomagal: That is beautiful! I wanted an asscher so bad, but I got a cushion instead. I love the rose gold, though, and the texture is so unique.

@SweetRose2011:  An asscher is essentially an emerald cut that is square in shape rather than rectangular.  It usually has its corners cut so it is often an octagon (8 sided).  Cuts like round (also oval), princess, radiant, marquise, and cushion are facet cut.  Emerald and asschers are what is called "step cut".  Instead of lots of small facets, asschers and emeralds have longer planes cut into them.  So instead of being "sparkly" they are more "flashy".  A good place to read about the cut and its history is...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLPjBwKQx8g.  Great YouTube video.

@sonomagal: Thank you, at first I thought my ring might fall into that category but the cut looked a little different, and all the descriptions online weren't helping any.

@SweetRose2011: Post a picture of your diamond.  I am pretty good at identifying cuts.  Gemology is a hobby of mine.

I want to bring the post back! I love my asscher, and wasn't aware of this cut until I started researching.

For reference my center stone is 2.01 and my finger size is a 3- 3.25 (mini I know!)

For those not sure if they want an asscher, it definitely shows smaller than a round, however it's gorgeous in its own right! xoxo

@asscherlover:  It's a lavender sapphire.  We got it at Shane Company in Cupertino, CA.  I have the only one they have, though!
