I have a 5 prong ring, and it's never snagged on anything.
My prongs never snag things, a well-fitted prong should do no more than occasionally collect a little fuzz. The prong should fit tightly to the stone and then be filed at the top, so it shouldn't happen that they snag, if the jeweler set the stone properly.
Mine has never snagged anything (4 prong brilliant cut). We were in talking with our gemologist the other day, who also set the ring, and he was talking to us about how he prefers a lower setting just for this reason. Also, more comfortable when wearing gloves, doesn't bang on things, etc.
I'm wondering if maybe that's why mine doesn't snag at all ... it was set low.
I have ripped 3 sets of sheets already. Anyone else ruin sheets? I'm going to get my prongs fixed.
I have a 3-stone prong ring and it has NEVER snagged on anything. NOTHING at all. Ever. (Been wearing it since 1.6 yrs.)
My 4-prong solitare is being set at the jewelers now and I'm really worried that it's going to catch on EVERYTHING! But I will just turn it around or not put on until I'm dressed/hair done, etc.
I have never noticed it snag on anything before. Its 6 prongs, marquise cut & its low profile. So maybe that's why.
sometimes I'll find a tiny little fuzz that is so small and packed in there so tightly, I have to use tweezers to get it out!
and occasionally it will pull a "loop" out of my towel-- I hate that.
but I'm pretty sure my prongs are as tight as they can possibly be, it seems that this is just a common thing with prong rings!
I have a 6 prong solitaire ring as well and it snags things all the time... I try to put it on after I get dressed and ready but even when I'm out I've snagged it against people! Lol!
Edit: my prongs are also not loose at all. I have a Tiffany style knife edge 6 prong ring... they stick out pretty far, it's bound to happen things catch onto them. I have a bigger problem with hitting them off of things. I hit my ring off of a girl at a very tightly packed rave and (the wall a few times as well since I was in the front row) and when I got home I noticed it was bent. The jeweler looked at it and said it's fine and tight still but I've been keeping my eye on it! lol =)
Mine is a low set 4 prong solitaire and I don't really have snagging problems.
Mine used to snag until I got it fixed. I was going to learn to deal with the snagging (like turning my ring around) until I was told that its a problem. The snagging is a result of the prongs being too "loose." In fact, continual snagging can loosed your setting, possibly resulting in losing a diamond! No thank you, now I'm snag free :)
