I am on the hunt for a dj, and I found one who I think has great rates. I spoke with him, and his style is pretty laid back from what I can tell. His wife makes the announcements at the reception, but they don’t really emcee in the way a typical dj might – no jokes, no sound effects, no extra talking, really, beyond what is needed to announce certain events. It sounds like something we would like. Neither of us really like the cheesy dj types.
I am a little worried about what might happen if the dj is too laid back. Will it be boring?
Have any of you had a more laid back dj, and if so, how did it work out for your reception?

Our DJ was really laid back. He announced us into the reception, explained the buffet process, announced toasts, first dance, cake cutting and bouquet/garter toss. The rest of the time he just played the music that we had on our must play list, and avoided the stuff we didn’t want.
That’s exactly how we wanted it! I’m not a fan of sound effects/props/etc. Everyone danced their butts off all night. Definitely not boring! 🙂

Have you checked out reviews on weddingwire?

@EleanorRigby: Yep – all good reviews for him on weddingwire. We met with him yesterday, and we got a really good feeling from talking with him. I think we’ve found the right guy!
