I just got my two-ish weeks notice at work 🙁 It’s not a surprise since I was warned in December that they were running out of work for me, but it still sucks more than I thought it would. The timing is also awful, I’ll be officially laid off right before our first/tenth anniversary and right before DH’s work, which is largely seasonal, dwindles to nothing. I am/have been looking for work since December but this is not a good time to be unemployed and no one is really hiring 🙁
I’m considering just applying for an MD/PhD as was my original plan, but I had really wanted to save up more first. School is so hideously expensive and I feel really uncomfortable wracking up that much debt when we’re not in a rock solid place financially.
Are there any bees in a similar position? Or who just want to commiserate?

FI just lost his job last week. He was making more than I do (I’m a teacher), and we’re getting married in July. Crappy timing…
I’m sorry. I totally feel your pain. I have also been laid off from a job. Sometimes these rough times afford us new opportunities to try new things and get out of our comfort zones. You’ll figure it out, and things will come together for you.

Sorry. I am out of work with an injury and my pay has gotten really cut. It sucks and the economy sucks too. The only good thing is that because of the economic climate, unemployment has been extended and I think you can still get it for like 99 weeks. It cuts your pay but hopefully you can live off of it to take some pressure off and you will find something/enroll in school!

I am so sorry! big hugs! even when you know it’s coming, it still sucks!
my company relocated this summer but I was not in a position to move. they treated those of us in the old office terribly and eventually i ended up training my replacement so i could stay a few extra months, which sucked (mostly because he was a real jerk). it still hurts to think about it.
i hope you land on your feet. i truly believe the economy is improving. most of us who were laid off managed to find new jobs fairly soon. just remember there is nothing wrong with being out of work, keep trying and you’ll land something 🙂
