So one of my friends cousins just got engaged. And how does the wimp propose? By changing his relationship status to engaged and waited for her to accept it. He then posts a picture of her ring on her wall and waited for her to get home from class to give it to her. Which means a hundred other people saw her ring before she did! Now, I have heard of wimpy and lame proposals but, come on! He made it up to her by taking her to a huge surprise party he had organized for them that night. That is right. He put more time and energy in planning the biggest party he could than the proposal itself. Ugg... sometimes people make me sad. lol. So, don't ever feel like your proposal was lame! I can't think of anything that can beat this!

Well... there was the girl that "woke up engaged" but her story ended up kinda cute.

How old are they?   lol   I would have been disappointed.  I hope he actually asked her in person too...

Um, that's crazy.  I think I would have cried if my FI had proposed like that.

Ha wow. FI would have gotten a "decline" because I would have thought he was joking? How strange. It sounds like he's 12! Jeez.

I actually think this is awesome. If my husband had done it this way (not his style), I would have been thrilled.

My cousin's proposal was pretty lame.  Her guy said something like "Let's get married Friday." No down on bended knee, no lovely words, nada.  Like he was asking "What's for dinner?" I was PISSED about it for a while but hey she accepted it so...

I think it all depends on the person. If he knew that she is ok with that sort of thing, then cool, if not.... *pulls at collar* :S

I could see this sort of proposal being absolutely awesome for the right couple, and totally sad for another.

Ouch, I would not be okay with that if I were this girl!

One of my best friends had a pretty terrible proposal too. In the weeks prior to her engagement, she and her (now) husband were arguing a lot over his pretty frequent golf outings. She finally told him that the next time he wanted to play golf with his friends, he better have a ring for her (they already had a 6 month old daughter at this point). The following weekend he went to WalMart and bought the cheapest ring they had. She worked nights so it was like 9 am and she had just gotten home a few hours before and finally got to sleep. He tied the ring to one of their daughters toys and threw it at her to wake her up. He said "There's your ring. I'm going golfing." and he left. Later that day she went and returned the ring and bought something she actually liked.

I think it's kind of cute and unique. Clearly he did plan it and put thought into it, so by that token it can't possibly be the lamest proposal ever. I would definitely prefer that proposal over the jumbotron.

@Oribel013690: Naturally, but I've had people ask me about the proposal or congratulate me a month or so after my engagement.  Some people are oblivious.

Uhhh... I wonder if that's going to translate into other areas of their life. Like, if he loses his job, is he going to FB message her? He couldn't have just waited until the surprise party?

    I also would have declined.

I had a pretty low-key proposal that a lot of women probably wouldn't have liked, but it was perfect for us. It's definitely not my style to be proposed to via facebook...but maybe it was for them? I hope so, anyway!

Perhaps they have some inside joke regarding Facebook? Maybe they communicate on it a lot? I am not going to call him a wimp because that might of had special meaning to them. It's certainly a different way to go about it, unique and probably memorable.

@DesireeAnne: I couldn't believe it when she told me. If FI proposed like that, he would have received a big fat f*ck no!

Her hubs really is a nice guy though, so I don't know that the hell he was thinking.

@kperry3:  A couple of friends I graduated from HS with recently got married and changed their FB statuses *at* the alter.  Laptop and all.  And they're both 30.  It was a-DORK-able.  ;)

Maybe they're really into Facebook, or they met through FB, or they're a "techie" couple, like a previous poster said. Did she accept? Are they both happy? That's what matters.

I think it still required planning and he put himself on the line...honestly, most proposals are lame and corny...they are only special to the two people involved.

@Ms Hedgehog:  I don't think it's right of you to judge her and make fun of her proposal.  What if, as a newly engaged woman, she joins weddingbee and finds this post? Also, it's not really any of your business, is it?

yikes, i would not be happy with a facebook proposal.  well maybe another kind of fb proposal. i could see someone taking over the wall and writing in huge letters and pouring out his heart and ending with: will you marry me....that would be a passable fb proposal!  but the changing status thing?  he didnt even ask her!

but...CaitMarae, your story takes the cake! if there was a contest for worst proposal ever, that one would win!

@Gina-Marie: I wasn't judging the fact that the ring was from Wal Mart. I'm sure lots of women have WM rings and they are very pretty. He simply chose the cheapest ring he could find and it was a cut that she had previously told him she didn't like (marquis).
