My parents are landlords. They always sent out cards, and bought them some salt for the wallks.

I’m not a landlord, but I have been a renter for 6 years in private homes and sublets, and I’ve never received a card/giftcard/present from any of my 4 landlords. I’ve never expected one either.

Our landlord sends us a voucher and a card every Christmas, so it’s definitely not unheard of. We really appreciate it!

I rented for 5 years, and I never received a card or anything else from my landlord, and my parents have 3 rental properties and don’t send anything.

We aren’t renters anymore, but our last landlord was so sweet and used to get us a card and a box of chocolates for christmas. Completely unexpected and made my day when I got it! I don’t think you should feel obligated though OP. It’s a nice thing to do but not expected.

@kerensa:  I kind of like the idea of salt for the walks – you want your place taken care of it and it’s a kind way to encourage that.

Hope you don’t mind a renter’s input: we have rented two houses and several apts.  Only the landlords for the houses sent cards.  Our current landlord sent us a card and starbucks gift cards last year (10 bucks or so).  It was very sweet!

I think it’s a really sweet idea. Something small, like homemade something or a gift card would be nice. I have received cards when I lived in an apartment complex. The flip side is should they get YOU something.
