Hey ladies! I just made my first appointment to get laser hair removal! I’m getting my pubic area done (Brazilian style!) I’m a little nervous, mostly because I am going out of town for the weeekend, so I will be sitting in a vehicle for 6 hours immediately after my appointment. For ladies who have had laser hair removal – am I crazy? Am I going to be really uncomfortable?

@Kayla0416: You’ll be fine! I did it, and I think one time I was a bit red for all of 30 minutes, but felt totally fine. It definitely doesn’t feel awesome during the actual appt, but it’s quick and really not that bad. Take advil before and that should help with any swelling.

It is way less painful than a brazillian wax, and I’m not as sore afterwards either. I loved mine and I need to get it touched up this year!

Mine wasn’t painful at all! When I got my first Brazillian wax I almost couldn’t stand the pain. I thought the laser would be almost as bad, but it’s no where close. I really didn’t feel anything except the cool blast of air. I’m doing my bikini line right now and eventually I’d like to do brazillian and full legs. It’s going great so far.

@Kayla0416: I had no discomfort at all. During the actual appointment its a little bit annoying but, afterwards.. nothing. If you do have discomfort or irritation, I was told to use some aloe.

I heard that the softer the tissue area is, the easier it is. I had it done on my legs and the only part that hurt was over the shin bones (and even then it was tolerable). everything else was no problem.

I do it at home on my armpits every week, it doesn’t hurt at all! I have tried my bikini as well but I’m too lazy to stay on top of it. It works amazing though if you have the right complexion/hair color for it, and apparently I do!

@Pinkmoon: Not to threadjack, but there’s laser machines you can buy for at home? Cool!

@Kayla0416: I am sooooooooooo jealous! I would love to do underarms, brazilian and legs.
Anyone try a Groupon offering to get this done? I’m always so leery of Groupon but sometimes they offer laser hair removal deals in my area.

I think you’ll be fine. I’ve had 4 brazilian sessions so far and even for my first one which is normally the worst it hurt during quite a bit (not as much as waxing though) and I’d say I was tender for maybe 30 mins after but there was really no lasting discomfort.

I have really sensitive skin. I don’t find it painful at all, but about an hour afterwards my skin does get irritated for the day. Just in case, be prepared with something comfy. I wouldn’t want underwear elastic rubbing my skin after. Find a pair that doesn’t have elastic over the area being done, or be prepared to go commando in some comfy pants.
I do go to be treated for skin conditions though, so chances are you’ll be better off than me!

I’m beginning my 2nd year of laser hair removal treatment and it’s going great. My legs are almost hairless and the bikini + armpit areas are sparse when hairs grow back. It takes usually more than 10 treatments to get all finished. My sister had 10 treatments and she has lost more than 90% of hairs which is an excellent result.

@AB Bride: +1 I was told to wear white underwears the day of the treatment as it is less agressive on the skin than dark panties (because of the coloration).

@cdncinnamongirl: Oh yah! It was like $500, but worth it. It’s Silk n’ something or other…

@Kayla0416: You will be totally fine. I had the same thing done and they put this menthol cream on after to help with the burning, then in about 30 minutes it’s 100% back to normal!
