Laser hair removal. Anyone done it?

Hey ladies.  I've been thinking about getting laser hair removal, but I don't know anybody who's done it before, so I'm looking for opinions from people who have.  I often get brazillian waxes and I'd really like to get lasered "down there" to make it permanent.

Anybody done this? (or had the laser done elsewhere?) How were the results? How many sessions did it take?

    Lasered bee here!
I had my underarms, legs and brazilian bikini done with laser.
It depends a lot on the type of hair that you have. I have very dark and thick hair so laser works very well on me.

It also depends on the region you do it. After 3 treatments, I stopped doing my legs because it was summer and you're not supposed to get direct sunlight for 2 weeks before and after a treatment, so I took a break. But I never started again because it had worked so well I decided to start my brazilian instead and finish up the legs later. My underarms were done in 8 treatments, and I have 3-4 hairs left that I tweeze from time to time, but no one would see them anyway.

Brazilian: after the first treatments, you already see a huge difference, but since you hair grows in phases, they'll recommend that you go up to 8 treatments (once every 8 weeks). Do not go the week just before your period or the week of - your skin is more sensitive then.

There will be some hair that grow back, but basically very thin and pale and soft . There are some regions that my laser lady had a harder time reaching, and since it's a more sensitive region and so, so small, and it was embarrassing to ask her to get there, I wax or shave that small patch.

Totally worth it. Never have to invest again in waxing kits, never have the coarse, rough hair grow back and being uncomfortable. Never have to worry if I'm soft enough or not.

I'm glad to have a positive review of it!  If you don't mind me asking a few questions, does it hurt much?  I have pretty high pain tolerance (I've never bothered with Advil or a drink before waxing) but some things I've read have made it sound really painful.  Also, I read that you have to shave before going in, and that the shaved hairs need to fall out of your skin after.  How long does this take?  Is it gross or fairly unnoticable?

You won't notice the hair falling off at all, unless like me, you try and pull them off to see if they go, and they do, haha. You have to shave before (I always go in the shower and shave right before going to the appointment).

For the pain, I think I have high tolerance too. It doesn't hurt much except in the areas where you have more nerves. But it's just like a shock of heat type of thing, it doesn't last. I used to wax there myself, and the laser is much softer than waxing, in my opinion. Also, when you go for the first time, the hairs are thicker so you will feel it more, and at the end, almost nothing.

Be sure to research what company you go with, though.. I've heard many people not satisfied with the results depending on where they went. Find some reviews before you go.

I used American Laser Centers. It cost me $3ooo for 8 treatments (every 8 weeks) with a 2 year guarantee afterwards. I have my last session on Cino De Mayo of the 2 year guarantee . And I have 1/5 of all of the hair left. Unfortuately its not ALL gone, but it was worth it. It's just soft, light, baby hair left.

@egb- I did get that little patch lasered ever time and it is pretty embarrasing and funny. I just laugh afterwards.

I did it too! Well, I just started my treatments anyways. I'm doing it at Ideal Image and I get 9 treatments with a lifetime guarantee. I got/am getting my underarms, brazillian, and perianal done and it's costing me $3,300, which was definitely more than I wanted to spend but it is something I've been wanting awhile now. I also did it during one of their 60% off sales (I can't imagine spending so much more!) so I'm not sure what a "normal" price range is for it, because $8K just seems ridiculous to me. I gotta say that it was a lot more painful than I expected. I also don't take anything before waxing and while I thought that brazillian waxing was more painful than shaving, I can tolerate it. I found that laser hair removal in my underarms was tolerable, but my brazillian was PAINFUL. Yes, it's like the heat shock thing and yes, it's gone within 10-20 minutes of finishing. But omg, I was about ready to tell them to stop and I'd come back next time with numbing cream! So next time I had them prescribe me their super powerful numbing cream cuz I can't imagine doing that another 8 times! I think if they had to just zap me one time during the session I could have tolerated it, but the process takes 20-30 minutes of zapping...uggggggh. I hail to you numbing cream gods.

As for the results, I definitely love them and would recommend it (but get the numbing cream!) Even after one time, I see results and especially in my underarms, the hair is barely growing back already. In my bikini area it still grows back faster but shaving lasts a lot longer.

I would really like to get my bikini line done before my honeymoon... I should start to look into that.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone.

Obviously the last little patch is awkward/embarassing, but could somebody please tell me where that is, if you're comfortable with it?

Like, inside - I'd have to hold the skin, but my hands would be kind of in the way and I think she didn't feel comfortable with that either..
I know I'll eventually have to go and finish it, but I kinda have issues with the price for such a little area: when I did my underarms and legs, the price would go down from time to time because there was less hair to remove, that was fair. But the lady who did those was my friend so I felt weird going to her for my brazilian so I switched places. At the new place, the price would not go down from time to time, and I think that since she missed the spot, she should let me finish it for free, but she wont, so I'd have to pay for another few times for 2 shots... I dunno.

oh my god, I can't believe how expensive it is here. It's cheaper for me to buy a round trip ticket overseas and get it done there!

I compare the pain to being snapped by an elastic. The same time as the "zap" hits, a blast of freezing air hits your skin to kind of numb it. After my first session I was really red and irritated but they gave me aloe gel to put in the fridge and told me to repply it often to keep the skin cool. You won't notice the hair falling out at all, it's like milimeters long and most comes off in the shower. Exfoliating after while the hair is growing out helped too. In the 3 sessions I have had since, I haven't been red at all. I had 4 sessions total over the course of the year and my underarm hair is completely gone.

@aloweha: I agree about the prices!!
My Brazilian was about 900$ for all 8 treatments, taxes included.
Legs were 225$ the first time, and the price would decrease each time so I don't know how much it would have cost in the end since I didn't finish it.
    Underarms about 540$ total....
