Lol. I didn’t but I think I’ve seen other bees say they have. I don’t feel any different.

@little_lamb:  I’m already practicing signing my new name and we almost sent our Christmas cards from the family name to be. I decided against it because we aren’t but also that would take away from next years Christmas card:)

@soinlove79:

@little_lamb:

I am soooooo ready to change my last name! I’m Thai so my maiden name is super long with every letter in the alphabet and everyone has such a hard time pronouncing it. I hate spelling it over the phone. My new one will be just as long lengthwise but its spelled exactly the way it sounds. I may or may not have made an email address using my new name years before we got engaged… 😉

@little_lamb:  Oh, I’m pretty sad to lose my maiden name.  Cry  I know I don’t have to take FI’s name, but I want to. I’ve toyed with the idea of using my maiden name as my middle name to keep it around somehow.  My middle name is not a family name – in fact, it’s the shortened version of what my name would have been if I were born a boy – so I’m not sad to lose it.  BUT, if I do the whole maiden as middle thing, my initials will include “BS” and not only is it physically awkward to sign that (I can’t get the letters to flow very well) but, well, come on… BS.  I thought maybe I could convince FI to let me give a daugher (if we have one) my maiden name as HER middle, but then I realized I’d be making her part BS, too.  So, looks like no maiden for me at all anymore….

@little_lamb:  I didn’t think I’d be at all nostalgic about changing my name, especially since I was making my maiden name my middle name, but just seeing this post made me kind of sad and I totally understand how you feel! We just got married in October and I was finally able to change my name about a week or 2 ago, and as excited as I am to finally be Mrs. *********, I’m kind of sad to say goodbye to my maiden name. Your post made me reailze that my last Christmas with my maiden name was LAST YEAR, and I didn’t even think about it! lol. You’re definitely not alone, I feel like it’s all very bittersweet.

@little_lamb:  I’m not looking forward to changing my name. 🙁 I might not, actually. But if I do change it, my fiancé will give me final say on all of our future kids names, so that’s pretty sweet.

Yes! Yesterday was actually the first time I sat down and practiced my new signature 🙂 Not particularly nostalgic about my maiden name however, as my parents divorced and I have the last name of the parent I no longer talk to. Mostly just excited about the new beginning- although my new name will be a long one and I will definitely have to spell it out over the phone!!

Me! But I have to admit I’m 100% excited and not at all nostalgic, it’s nkt that I don’t like my name but I have an unexplainably strong urge to be Mrs NewLastName NOW 😛 I fail.

Ah! It’s my last Christmas with my maiden name too. That is crazy to think about! I have a super long maiden name, too (going from 10 letters to 4 letters), so that part I’m excited about, but I agree–it makes me feel a bit nostalgic to think that I’m not going to share my family’s name anymore.

But, 4 letters?? Oh man, after years of people mispronouncing and misspelling my last name, I am pretty dang excited.

@little_lamb:

@kgdouth:  I feel so similarly! Not exactly counting the months, but “oh this is my last birthday with my name!” or now, “the last christmas with my name!”  I’m fairly sure I’m going to change mine – I have a last name that gets people confused ALL THE TIME, plus I like the notion of being a family unified by one name, but I’m sure I’ll miss it too.

I’ll keep my maiden name as my middle name, which means I’ll probably drop my middle name altogether, which does make me sad as I LOVE my middle name. Fortunately, my FI loves it too, and it’s at the top of our list for names if we ever have a daughter 🙂
