Gallaway-Horne sounds nice!  I am a teacher, too, so I am going to remain Ms. Acid at school, and be Mrs. Fiancesname elsewhere.  I GUESS.  He has expressed strongly that he wants me to take his name, so I guess I will.

My middle name is my mom’s last name, so I am going to just drop them both…and become this new person…=(

What about bumping your maiden name to your middle name? Maybe having two middle names?

f all the hyphenating haters! if that is what YOU like then go for it. it is YOUR name.

FWIW, i am in a similair situation. my FI would also like me to take his name, but does want me to do what makes me happy. i am thinking i will likely take his name and not hyphenate, just because i dont think it flows well. i am in the midst of a career change where i will be working with kids and his last name is a really easy one to poke fun at for kids, so i like the idea of being old name professionally, new name in life. maybe you can insist the kids at this school call you ms. gallaway 😉

@Mrs.H2B:  I feel like I’ll be judged no matter what.

Thats true, you will, by some people. Take his name, don’t take his name at all, hyphenate, everything comes with judgement. So just do what YOU won’t and don’t worry about the rest of us.

I love the name Horne. That’s my useless piece of advice. I like Gallaway-Horne too but it may be a bit of a mouthful (don’t hate hyphenating in general)

Before meeting my FI, I never considered taking any other man’s name.  Now, I’m so proud and excited to be taking his name.  Maybe it’s the way you’re looking at it.  You’re not losing a part of yourself, you’re gaining and starting a new exciting self that is most intertwined with the one person you love the most.

On that note, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with hyphenating it, if you choose!

I personally am keeping my name…I’ll use his socially, but I will not legally change my name…..why?  we’ve been together 9 years…..and I’ve had my own name the whole time….I like my name, and my middle name is my mother’s maiden name as well and I don’t want to drop that either…..

FWIW, Gallaway-Home sounds like that movie “Fly Away Home.”
